Fairing removal

Post by gripperod »

Is there a trick to removing the fairing at the top of the tank where the rubber lever thingy is? I have refered to the manual but it seems to take a lot of graunching (is that a real word?) and Im scared of damaging the fairing panel. Apols if this seems a bloody stupid question but Im really good at asking them.

Cheers

Have you got all of the screws out?
  • Two at the back under the seat;
    Three around the indicator pod;
    One in front of the oil cooler;
    One from the inside behind the BMW badge?
If so, flick up the lever and lift the left side panel with the lever attached whilst holding down the right side one.

:idea: When you reassemble, use a little silicon grease or petroleum jelly to help them slide together.

All the screws are out its just the switched rubber bung thingy that seems very stiff to get apart.

If all the screws are out and the lever bit is flipped up it'll just pull apart or spray it with WD,it just an expanding gromit,no not that Gromit!!!

Chris - I've been expanding for the last few years mate!! :lol:

(expanding a bit too much for the old leathers it has to be said) :(

Anyway, what Chris said re spraying the rubber 'bung' with something like GT85* or WD40. Give it a good pull and it should pop out.

*This smells nicer ;)
