R1100S Horn upgrade - any ideas / info

Post by woofboxer »

I wouldn't mind upgrading the horn on my R1100S as the stock item is a bit weedy.

I used to have a K100RS and the horn on that would have brought down the walls of Jericho. Has anyone transplanted a K100 horn onto an S, and if so were there any snags?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Have a look at this forum lsit on the UK GSer site

for the Stebel Nautilus and Stebel Magnum horn.

I think Nippy Norman and Sportouring stock both.

I think the principal difference (apart from decibel level) is that the Magnum can be fitted directly, while the Nautilus requires relay-fed.

I've fitted the Stebel Magnum (139dB) from Nippy Normans. It's a vast improvement on the standard and like Al said, you can fit it directly.

Certainly wakes up the sleepy drivers on their Sunday afternoon potter in the countryside!

I have also fitted the magnum from Nippy Normans, if I recall correctly it was just over a tenner. Great deal and lots of noise. :o

Julian, I had the same problem upon fitting my Ohlins. I gave up trying to fit in the original position.

In the end I fitted the horn on the right/offside of the bike.
It is placed in the area where the inside fairing bolt screws into the BMW badge. (You all know the one! Barsteward to removed and replace.) I used a small piece of steel to make a simple bracket with a couple of holes in each end. (It is not fitted to the same bolt as the fairing, not strong enough.)

Then extend the feed for the horn and Hey presto! :D

Woofboxer,.. any K100/K75 horn should fit straight on, .. and as you already know,.. that's all the horn you'll ever need.
