insurance renewal
Just renewed my insurance today with Carole Nash. Managed to get 10% off the quoted renewal price, after 'phoning up to tell them about my 3 speeding points (which the initially quoted as an extra £2 increase on the quote) and then telling them the price e-bike quoted me. Ms Nash ended the discussion at £20 more than e-bike, but my policy covers me for european breakdown assistance, which would have been an extra £50 with e-bike.
The moral: always get quotes and ask your insurer to match them before renewing!

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.
mines due at the end of this month, Carol nash renewal is £225 fully comp + protected no claims, ebike comes in cheaper at £148, but without the breakdown cover and with a much higher excess, so I think I'll stick with Carol Nash ( I might phone 'em though and see what they can do a-la Paul)

Rant Warning:
I recently cancelled my HD's policy as 1. it's non-transferable to another bike and 2. Seeing as I'm on max (& protected) no-claims I needed to cancel so as to be able to transfer the NCB to my new policy on the BM. No great loss as I'd probably get a few quid back for ending the policy with a few months to go anyway.
So...I write a nice letter to the Harley's insurers telling them 'thankyou very much but you're no longer needed'. I then get a letter from them saying 'you owe us 40 quid'.
WTF?
This is the same insurer who didn't bother to get back to me after leaving them the details of my accident.
Got the BCR covered for 290 quid F/C with a 250 excess. Not too bad for my postcode, considering it's the 3rd highest theft risk area in the country (this is despite us having armed guards/20' high security fencing etc etc etc).

Bob,
Check your excesses on both policies. eBike have multiple levels of excess on their policies, so, if for example you take a voluntary excess of £300 and you claim the bike is garaged, they will add an additional £350 excess if the bike wasn't in the garage when nicked from your home, so you will be £650 down on compensation in this case... The cost of eliminating the voluntary excess is fairly low though. They quoted me about £230 fully comp with a £300 pound excess or £250 with a £0 voluntary excess.
Cheers,
Paul

Paul,
I did pretty much the same back in April.
Carole Nash wanted £478 f/c (RSVR. BCR, TRX850)
Ebike £385
Spoke with Carole Nash and they brought price down to £423, however like you say, with full European breakdown etc and the excess was better. Always worth a phone call!

Guys,
Just to prove IT is well worthwhile spending some time sorting out insurance here is my experience's over the last 12 months. After my accident at Burton last year and the loss of all my no claims bonus Carol Nash wanted over £800 to renew my policy, I ended up insuring with Norwich Union through Bennetts which cost around £500 with no cover to ride another bike and no cover for carrying a passenger. Just had my renewal from Bennetts £485 for the same cover, Gave E-Bike a try ,£260 With a zero £ excess apart from £175 own damage or £250 not garaged at home address. This also covers passengers and Alan as a named rider even declaring his accident and the 5 points he picked up in Scotland a while ago, Guess who got my money!!
Peter.
