Suspension settings

Post by a-jay26 »

Hi there,

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times but here goes again.....

I was out today on my bike and it was just terrible at going over bumps!! Maybe it was just me, but I had been twiddling the rear pre-load adjusted.

Can anyone tell me a good base setting. I am 6'2" or so and about 15 stone and normally ride just myself but on occasioons the 'Bird' comes too....she doesn't know about this site so I am safe!!

Does anyone really think the adjuster for the front suspension (infront of the tank) does anything as I can't feel any differance?? Maybe it just me but any help would be great.

Thanks

As far as i could tell the adjusters did nowt on my original suspension. Get yourself some Ohlins, technoflex,WP etc. :)

I always add a couple of turns of preload to the rear before I go 2up with luggage.

Can't remember if I take it off again afterwards.

The front does make a difference but only really at the extremes of adjustment, it's a bit crude. Try it 5 clicks out from max. The rear pre load on my old shock was about 26 - 30 clicks from min and the damping was half to three quarters of a turn out from max, but again it's a bit crude.

I'm 6'4 and approx 16 1/2 stone.
I had the rear set to approx 6 clicks from max and the front didnt make much difference, but i had it to also approx 3/4 towards max
worked really well until i binned it!
