Ride with Bodywork Missing?

Post by POB »

My bike is due some TLC. I need to remove all of the bodywork to clean the induct (or possibly remove the airbox lid?)

As it happens, my bellypan is in for repair and paint after a pot-hole incident, which was followed by a loud cracking sound.

How little bodywork can I ride the bike with? I would like to get the headlight surround, the tank centre panel and the single-seat cover painted with a white "GT stripe" to set off the red of the rest of the bike.

At some time in the future I will consider BCR-style sponsor stickers in white on the bellypan.

So, can I ride the bike (just about 5 miles) with no front bodywork at all, except the fender? Does anything important need bodywork to hang on?

Ta!

Wouldn't Plod take a dim view of that? I know the chances of seeing a real live Police Officer on the road is somewhat low, but I'd rather not have that conversation myself.

Can you take it off when you get there & pick up in a car etc?

You´ll need to attach the front indicators in some way, cos they normally in the side pods. Beside that, I don´t see any problem.

Just put your lights on and ride it there, without indicators. You'd be really unlucky to get stopped unless you're in London.

If you remove the side fairing panels (along with the front indicators) - I think you'll have to remove the rear indicators too.

Something about "If a vehicle is fitted with indicators - they must be functional".
You are allowed a bike with no indicators, though.

If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

POB,

I had the same panels sprayed up a year or so back, whilst they were in the bodyshop I put the side panels back on (with indicator pods) and commuted with the bike like that for a couple of weeks. The only issue you'll have is that the headlight unit isn't secure without the front panel, I know it's a bodge, but I overcame this with duct tape :!:
