I met (American) Andy Sills yesterday...

Post by RoLoo »

…who the feck is Andy Sills you might say…
…well ; Andy Sills has a thing or two with BMW…
…and he holds the land speed record on a K1200S…

...or else try Google...

Image

…and yesterday I met him at Van Harten, Amersfoort…

…he had done a trip through Europe (on a BMW R1200R), with his Dutch mate, Willem…
…and yesterday he brought the bike back to Van Harten, and because we were aware of that, a couple of the usual ‘saturday-afternoon-BMW-showroom-coffee-drinkers’ headed to Amersfoort, for (of course…) coffee, and a meet & greet with Andy…

…of course all of us together had a great trip…
…the coffee was great ; as usual…
…and it is great to listen to Andy’s stories…

…about the new turbocharged K1200S they are building to set a new record, with a small chain in the drive shaft, so you can change sprockets, in order to get huge top speeds, from the 300HP (or maybe more ?) engine…

…when Andy heard the ‘Hartenjäger’ was present, he almost needed some oxygen… :)
…he was very anxious to see this bike in real…
…after a lot of ‘ahhhhs’ and ‘ohhhhs’ from him ; he definitely wanted to have pictures taken from him with the Hartenjäger…
…and of course with the owner of the bike…

…pal Mike, the careful owner, isn’t the guy who likes to see himself in a picture, and you can tell that from his face…
…but we had a great afternoon ! ;)

…BTW ; Andy is a nice guy !

…first we did coffee in The Hague ; at Motor Houtrust…

…Andy, Mike, and Gertjan (shopmanager at Van Harten, and he once raced that K12S)…

…coffee anyone…??

…and don’t forget ; boxerjoy ! Andy inspecting a few boxers…

Great pics :D

The Van Harten colour scheme does a lot to make the K1200s look smaller.

That front mudguard on the sweet boxer..... That's obviously where they got the idea for the K1 mudguard.

Very beautiful... muy bonita

Oooh, he's got the Arai Quantum F Phil Read replica that I always wanted but was never brought into the UK. Some years ago I called the importers and asked why a replica of a 'British' GP riders helmet was available in every country except the UK. They didn't have an answer. It was available as a special edition in the entry level range (no vents at all)5 or 6 years ago and sold out really fast. It is available again but only in the lower mid range 'Chaser' range and yet there is all sorts of uglyness in the more upmarket Viper range

OK rant over, back to topic.
