Afternoon folks my name is AJ and I'm looking to tap in to the vast amount of knowledge here
This time next week all being well I should be the proud owner of a 06 plate R1200S. This being my first Boxer I'm just wondering what if any are the things I should be looking out for when buying secondhand. Not the usual bike things but the model, marque things.

Having owned an R12S for twelve months without any probs all I can say is that you can look forward to enjoying the experience. You'll be riding a bike that is fairly rare, for some weird reason (better know to BMWFarter) but is in fact a real gem. Its comfy, quick, and very capable of what ever you ask of it. Cleaning and caring for it is a sinch, no chain to lube etc. You may need to keep the oil topped up every 1000 miles or so, but only 3-400ml at the most - mines done 10,000 miles now and is hardly using any.
Its a good idea to keep it protected with F365 or ACF-50 during the winter as the engine covers and fork yolks can be a weak point for corrosion on the current and older GSs and older 1100s, however mine still look new (56 plate) so I think the balck paint on the engine may help - saying that I religiously applied ACF-50 all last winter after very few rides/cleans.

The R12S has a lot to live up to as the bike it will replace is my 02 RSV(R) which to be honest I can't fault.
It was when I was at Le Mans for the MotoGP in 2003 I first saw these BMW's racing (Boxer Cup ) and thought they look and sound the biz. Anyway the "mille" was still under 12 months old and I still very much in love with her. Now 5 years on the BMW has grown to 1200 and looks even better oh and I'm 5 years older
Not sure which colgate one you mean but yes a red & silver with sports pack, heated grips, ABS ,tinted screen, and pillion eat cover.
The only thing I'll probably do is change the exhaust as the back end could do with a little cosmetic surgery
Great to see another Red 'n' Silver down south! Been out today for a great blast around Dorset with PaulR with his Colgate 12s. Will have to get together for a triplet (?) ride out
I guess the 12S is less hardcore than the RSVR but it will do twice the legal speed limit at ease and is comfy for 400+ mile days and if you can embrace the telelever suspension it is really confidence inspiring and you can out brake many a so called super bike.. A bit limitied for pillion riders but it goes, corners & stops just fine.
Standard exhaust is a bit too quiet IMHO and I there are many after market systems available. I have put a Remus rear on mine (goes well with the Colgate colours) and without baffles (noisy pipes save lives etc) sounds sweet and pops & bangs lurverly on the over-run (sad I know but such fun )
The only thing that I can complain about after 9,000 miles is the paint peeling on the front of the engine behind the exhaust joining/alance pipe (not technical so probably has a proper name) but I hope to get this fixed under warranty.
I had one .... the proper one, namely orange. Bought it from Slaters.... regretted selling it.. but some good did come out of it..... my left arm muscles are now stronger than my right

The Silver bike is a 78 Jota. I've owned for over 22 years. I used to commute on it 100 miles a day back in the mid 80's and I Know it sounds sad but we've been through a lot together. Me 2 wives, and it a complete overhaul. The orange bike is a 79 Jota lots of changes from 78 to 79. Both bikes are now in retirement because this came along ....

New Baby has arrived
The rails at the back are part of a Ventura luggage system which I've removed for now. I've also noticed that the shiny clip that holds the inlet rubber is missing. (Can just see in picture) I thought there was a lot of plastic cable ties for a 9 grand bike Anyone know of a good source before I contact BMW to see what exorbitant value they put on the item
