ahhh!!! F..... Diesel

Post by timbox2 »

Just had one of those heart stopping moments, only went up the road to give the bike a little run after changing all the oils, theres a 2 mile stretch of newly surfaced tarmac and just at the end after a 40MPH camera, opened the throttle, quite gentle as its fine rain, and whoooo, back end side to side, thought I was down but stayed up just, then as the road changes to the old surface I see it, about 3 foot wide slick, which I then followed for another 3 or 4 miles before it disappeared. So, this new stuff disguises diesel, great, really does put me off going out unless its totally dry round here, or funnily enough pouring down which at least washes it away.

Rant over

PS; That transmission drain plugs a bitch aint it, had to modify a nice 14mm ring spanner and allen key, then the twatting hammer came out, that got it

Funnily enough I can smell the filthy stuff - which is just as well, because I ride a lot of early-morning miles in the dark during the winter.

What I really want to know is.. who drops it? Buses? Lorries? Tractors? And how do they get away with it? You sometimes see cars and bikes being stopped by police cars, and checked out for some infringement or other, but how many people have seen an artic pulled over and the driver being ticketed for leaving his tank-cap open?

Dropping diesel, no matter what circumstances, is (I believe) an absolute offence against the RTA. Why do we hear so little about prosecutions?

Cleaning up a road surface is the responsibility of the local authority (or, in Scotland and if it is a trunk road, the Scottish Executive). I know it is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, but one can and ought to complain about a spill to the Highways Dept of one's LA, and ask for something to be done about it.
