Helmet lock - help please?

Post by SteveH »

I have had my (2001 Frost blue) 1100S since summer last year and enjoy it no end, in particular (as others have said here) the confidence-inspiring front end and the brilliant standard screen. However, one thing which does tick me off somewhat is the lack of a helmet lock. Having Googled, I note this A&S in US offers this one which uses the locking luggage handle:-

and another by Ztechnic which mods the number plate bracket. But the descriptions/pix are not really clear and anyway the folks at A&S do not deliver to the UK.
Has anyone here already fixed this lack of a helmet lock, please? All suggestions gratefully received :)

Have you thought about buying a short padlock purely for this use??
I know that's what a few others have done on here.

Hi, Bailey, thanks, yes, I had thought about it and done it, but I'd much prefer something properly mounted on the bike....and just to be clear, I should better have said "lack of a good helmet lock" as the wire holders under the seat are, hmm, let's say not up to the standard of the rest of the bike.

Steve, you can easily make this yourself with a piece of metal. Two 90 degree bends and a hole is all it takes. Bend it 90 degrees, slide it under the bag handle until the downward piece is against the outer inside of the bag, mark the end of the handle, bend 90 degree up at the mark, drill a hole for the chin band. Done.

Attach 'lock' to helmet, open latch, slide 'lock' under latch, close latch, lock bag, walk away. :)

Steve

I had one of these helmet locks, works very well if you have DD ring fastners for your helmet.
The UK source used to be Nippy Norman although I do not know if he still does them. They were about GBP10 - 15 I believe

Throttlemeister, Steve W, thanks for the comments and suggestions. I'll follow up on these....think this gives me enough to go on.
