Faulty Rear Light

Post by scotty »

Was out for a short spin last night and noticed that my rear brake light is constantly on when the ignition is switched on and the bike running. I got a new rear tyre fitted a few days ago so he back caliper was disconected and also the hugger broke about a week ago and the bike has been ridden in a lot of rain. Any ideas as to a fault before I poke around tonight. The brake light seems to be constantly on and it makes no difference applying the front or rear brake. It might be something simple that was caused when the guy was fitting the new rear tyre and hopefully not water ingress into some part.

Have the MOT this Saturday so need everything working properly

Cheers

Probably your rear brake light switched is jammed on. Find the switch down by rear brake lever and follow wire back to nearest connector. Undo this and light should go out. If it doesn't, try the same method with the front brake just incase.
The only cure for this problem is to buy a brand new switch (about £20).

Check the micro switch under the rear brake pedal,it can get caught on the pedal adjuster making it stay on.

Gus - You were spot on. The micro switch was caught. Problem fixed in no time and looking hopefully ok for the MOT on the weekend.
