I think it's the right hand fuel pipe into the injector. It gets changed for a braided hose. Excuse to get us into dealers and shame us into upgrading our decrepit 8 year old steeds to more fancy modern tackle.

Well my dealer is about 40 miles away and Scotland is currently under 2 foot of water so it will have to wait a bit. Thanks Guys.

Anyone know what age range this recall covers? I haven't received a recall (2002 model) but then I didn't buy through a dealer so maybe they'll take a bit longer to find me.....?

Information on current owners was supplied to BMW by the DVLA. I think it is only us poor chaps with 98/99 models it is affecting by the looks of it. :(

I phoned BMW Battersea to ask them why I hadn't heard from them about it and they looked up my bikes history and said they had done the recall work at last years service. I imagine they are chasing people now who get their bikes serviced independently.

I telephoned the number on the letter and they said that there were 3 pieces of work that needed doing on my bike (99 model). They were:

1. A potential fault with the coding plug for the metronic system.
2. Fixed tube fastners on the upper fork yoke and
3. New fuel hoses using better material as old ones prone to crack and leak.

I asked how long I had to get this work done and the guy said up to two years so I might not bother until next year.
