Mine's mounted like so:
Image

Clamp is Garmin's motorcycle clamp
Platform is from my old gadgetguy mount (www.gadgetguy.net)
Crossbar on the tripple comes from Touratech

It's a bit of a mix and match, but it works for me and is very practical.

If I had to buy new, I'd buy a new gadgetguy mount again. His stuff is expensive, but the quality is beyond question, looks great and works even better.

I have tried RAM mounts in the past, but they just don't do it for me. They're wiggly, insecure, you need to adjust position every time you put the GPS on, you need to tighten it while driving to avoid it coming loose as the rubber balls compress and when you remove it you have two hands full of mounting material together with your GPS that you need to get rid of somehow.

Throttlemeister's solution looks neat :thumbright: and the construction and location should cope well with the 2610's bulk. Use of a tankbag might not allow the GPS to be mounted there :?

(Just noticed that there is no angle-adjustment available though :? )

An alternative is the RAM-mount, installed from a replacement clutch reservoir cover.

See the thread below:

viewtopic.php?t=3824&highlight=

I use the above method and find that the 2610 is usefully - offset to the left (for operation on the move) and is clear of my baglux tankbag when that is fitted.

I reckon that if you come to sell the bike...... the replacement clutch cover is allways sell-able separately, and the RAM assembly useable on your next (or second) bike.

Either is a good solution, I think.

I have a little Garmin i3 that I'm planning to use suckered onto the inside of the screen. Can't see any problem with that... Problem is obviously finding a mount. As a tankbag-hater I am also considering a tank-top sucker, but it puts stuff a little below my field of vision.

I have used the touratech mounts on a major African trip - the ones without the isolation fittings are good, but get the ones with them! I was using a Garmin GPS V deluxe, which was ruggedised anyway, mind. It survived a 60mph end-over-end cartwheel and remained intact. 6 months of horrible corrugations, and almost everything on the bike needed attention, except the GPS mountings....

2610 Mount

Post by NA1959 »

:? Thanks for the info. I'm stiil a bit un decided as I have the high bars and the taller screen and tankbag, so I do not know what is the best way to go!

I feel the farther I mount to the side may be best option!

Any more comments would be most welcome.

I used the replacement brake Reservoir cover and ram mounts.
http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/bike-mount34.htm
Good viewing position, but the Garmin mount suffered a little due to the amount of vibration throught the handlebars (the holes in the bottom of the 2610 are wearing). Maybe that was just my bike and the milage (10,000mile of virtualy continous use.

If the bike had not been written off I was planning on re-mounting the unit using the a RAM b272 mount via a an extra long replacement bolt for one of the handle bar clamp bolts

A tankbag can easily be mounted, as the GPS sits entirely over the triple clamp and does not overlap the tank.

There is angle adjustment; no side to side, but there is up/down adjustment. No prob, since you want a gps sitting in the middle of the triple clamp to sit straight anyway. :)

Let us know if it survives the roll down the road at 70mph :?

I did actually use the Garmin i3 this morning, as I had to take my gf to a site somewhere in deepest Hackney Downs. The sucker won't stick to the inside of the sreen, as there is too much curvature. It did, however, stick brilliantly well to the rev counter face. :P

Made going to this nightmare of a place, in rush hour and pouring rain, a (relative) pleasure. Realistically, I wonder how many people need to see the tacho while touring anyway? I can understand it on a track day, but on the road who cares? I am tempted to just use it like that. Only issue I found is that on full left-hand lock the reservoir just knocked it.

For £125 the unit was a bargain too - better than £400 receivers I have used in tha past. I think that the i2 (which has a black and white screen) might actually be even better for use on a bike. To qualify this I will say that I am not interested in voice prompts, I just want clear moving-map navigation and a good database.

(the i2 and i3 also have a **free** regularly updated speed camera database, complete with mobile sites, red light cameras and visual speed-limit / proximity warnings).

Sorry,I'm a bit late joining the party.

I want to mount my Quest or 2610 on my BCR and used the Ram Mount Wizard which came up with this :

I ordered the RAM-B-252,as I already had the other bits.
But now I have the piece to hand,I can't see how you can use this Mirror Base ball anywhere.

Has anyone managed to use such a part ?

I mounted a Quest  using this part by puttiing a longer bolt in the upper triple clamp and bolting the mirror base to the front of it. It allowed the Quest to sit just below the clocks.
As the 2610 is bigger I've seen the mirror mount used on the front suspension strut top mount where an after market strut is used.

Cheers

Talking about Quests, this item is something someone knocked up that uses the mirror mounting hole. Anything like this possible?

Have mounted mine with an 11mm mirror mount ram ball on top of the front shock (under the damping knob) seems fine, got a diamond ram mount to garmin motorcycle mount and small arm

should take some pics but a numpty when it comes to adding them.

only thing is i dont think the damping adjusting knob can be screwed into the same position as before but the bike seems ok
Train don't go down there no more
