Pivot bearings

Post by BR11S »

Hi guys ,
Studied the previous posts and decided to renew (tightened up first but still play) so got the parts from motorworks.
Plenty of heat needed to free off the locktight I put on last week.
Taken it all to bits but having trouble getting the bearing shells out.
How the fe*k do you drift the bearings out with the propshaft UJ in the way?
Any one got a small bearing puller? (SW midlands).

Another qustion while i'm asking - is the grease the replacements are covered in just for storage because it sure don't look like high melting point grease I have got in the garage.

Thanks for any help.

Bern mate - get a large flat screwdriver and put it in the middle of the UJ from the rear of the difs so it is like a lever, then give the screwdriver a swift firm swipe downwards and like magic, the UJ will come off from the diff and all will be easily accessible. Just make sure on reassembly that the UJ is firmly on - back over the spring clip that locates it. A swift tap on the end with a hammer should suffice. You should be able to pick the diff up by the UJ if it's properly located

Good luck

Jason,
Thanks for the info.
The UJ came off with very little effort.
I have got the 'big rubber mallet' ready for reassembly.

Incidently when I bought this very useful tool I wondered if i would ever use it but there are sooooo many time when it comes in useful.
