Who was that riding in their best Frank Thomas shorts on a Mamola Rep this morning???
Couldn't have been Gromit.......with shorts on?

As long as they were leather with arse armour.

I know its hot,but SHORTS!
Whoever it was(may not be anyone here),take a look in the butchers window.See that leg of lamb hanging up nice and red/fatty.Thats how your legs could look if you were to come a pisser.

Ahhh, but here in town where it's difficult to get out of 2nd...
gloves, a firm hold of your bars and two bloody great cylinder heads seems to do the trick!

On the other hand, most dispatchers seem to prefer full leathers and boots with no gloves

I saw a chap on a stripy BCR coming down Green Lanes this morning (out jogging with wife and dog - us not the chap on the bike

)

He was wearing his flip top lid open!!!, shades!!! and a t-shirt , jeans and no gloves

In this weather, I can't get near the S, its literally too hot to touch, and if I did I couldn't ride it as I have a blister on my big toe (dog lead incident at the weekend

) which would wreak havoc with gear changes whilst wearing flip flops.

Scooter is getting full use round the smoke at the mo' as everyone knows they're safe and don't require the wearing of protective clothing as its positively unstylish (the italians know the score).

Not me dude - I was heading out to Wales on the bike this morning, wearing full leathers...here sheepy sheepy...

Full Leathers, Boots and No Gloves,... that's about right . 100K miles a year with 'pro-rata' accident rate is why 'we' (Can only speak for the old timers) always wear Leather with armour, same for boots. No Gloves is simply sacrificing safety for practicality. In winter thick gloves cant handle the radio or XDA's.. in summer, .... 12 hours in the postcodes in sweaty leather gloves and your hands look like the aforementioned 'leg of lamb'.
Its tempting to strip down, .. but I'll guarantee that's the day you'll 'Bin It'.
You will see a 'DR' in shorts and Tee Shirt, .. he'll be riding a CB500 or Hornet,... with no Mirrors and a 'Jesus Saves' topbox, .. and he'll be uttering obscenities to all and sundry in Portugese. Unfortunately for him .. his life expectancy equally matches the length of his Student Visa.

the trick is not to fall off - had a meeting in Soho today and braved the ridiculous temperatures (BMW seat at about 60 degrees C) in full linen get up. Did make concessions with helmet and sunglasses and trainers..

what is a (perhaps foolish) calculated risk around a city becomes lunacy at high speed - having had first hand experience of a flesh/tarmac coming together, it amazes me to see nutters bombing down the motorway in shorts and t shirt.

still its not 36. whatever degrees every day of the year.

But.... What are the chances of someone pulling out on you on the motorway? IMO it's far more dangerous riding in town (regardless of what you're wearing) than it is on the motorway. I wouldn't ride on the motorway in a t-shirt because being hit by a bee or wasp or similar at that speed is exceedingly painful, but other than that I'd be more relaxed about it than I would coming into town dressed the same way.

Commuting into London in this weather I wear boots (breathable - yeah, right - Goretex can't cope with this weather), jeans, gloves, lightweight armoured jacket and helmet. Still far too hot at the moment but that's my personal compromise between safety and comfort. Judging by the number of nutters screaming around Camden on sports bikes while dressed in shorts, t-shirt and sandals I'm erring rather on the over-cautious side

80mph off vs. 15mph off... know which I'd prefer

I guess its down to what you feel comfortable with - I ride round the city regularly and a couple of notches down from courier levels and I get a wake up near miss once every few months, most of the time its my fault - one of these will have me off at some point and I normally wear as much gear as I can bear in any given weather scenario to be as prepared as I can.

Went to a meeting in Dulwich this morning, 20 mins each way in early morning traffic - made the concession of boots and cycling gloves (to compensate for t-shirt

).

Best bit is going across the thames on London bridge, its sooo tempting to open the throttle whilst taking in the view - as a responsible urban motorcyclist I didn't

well ony a bit.
