...me unfortunately.
Less than a mile from home today at around 10am, went onto St Andrews roundabout in Uxbridge, some blind bint in a Golf (on the phone

) pulls out in front of me from lane 1 of her entrance to the r/b. I toot my horn, she remains oblivious (if you can't hear a Harley's horn you must be deaf). I keep a safe distance to her rear off-side whilst she's keeping well to the outside of the roundabout. At this point she steers towards the Park Road exit of the r/b with no signal, (at which point I'm signalling my exit onto Park Rd) and begin to power on to make my way onwards. She decides, whilst in the 'mouth' of the exit, to swerve right in front of me and carry on around the roundabout, cutting me off (she's probably still jabbering on the phone at this point). I blast the horn again but, like before, there's no evidence of her wish to avoid me. I have 2 options: Slam the brakes on or hit her broadside. There's Diesel on the r/b so I've been taking it very easy anyway, but the bike goes down and lands on my foot.
I can vouch for how good Daytona Evo boots are - 280kg of Harley and my foot's underneath it. I can still walk (just).
Bike's not
too bad - slightly bent bars, broken levers, scratched exhausts (£!!). Worst thing is that my previously-mint and shiny baby is now blemished.

and the stupid, blind, assasin on the Golf just drives off complaining to her telephone call about how this lunatic motorcyclist nearly hit her car as show was driving perfectly normally and safely around a traffic island?
If she did stop I hope you gave her a piece of your mind just before kicking her door in!
Hope you are Ok and the bikes mint real soon.

Ohmygod - not another one. Sorry to hear that Rich - hope you're better soon. People on the phone are worse than drunks cos they are more unpredictable I reckon and prone to sudden realisations as their concentration wanders between the conversation and the road. I reckon they should sell jammers for bikes that could screw the signals for a safe distance around the rider.

Thanks guys
Greg - she just b*ggered off. I would have got her reg number but I was facing the wrong way. Couple of kind folk stopped to make sure I was ok (and to lift the bike off me) including an off-duty female bike cop on a 1200 Bandit. I've got a crime number for the incident for insurance purposes but the chances of catching the myopic, and obviously deaf (no offence to the hard of hearing of course), bint driving the car. I reckon she didn't even realise I was there.
Trouble is, I'm probaby going to have claim on my insurance for the first time in nearly 25 years.
Anyone care to give me some much-needed advice on insurance loading after a claim etc? Cheers.

Nah, what we need is some form of onboard front facing camera that records on a ten minute loop. The bitch would'nt get away with it then
Glad your ok mate, as for ins loading, you'd have to weigh up what your excess is, against the cost of a free flowing rorty exhaust that you'll probably have bought anyhow sooner or later

Sorry to hear the news Grom & glad you are relatively OK which is the main thing.
I can sympathise - my missus has just called to say she's stoved in the nearside rear door and wing of our 6 day old car on the neighbours Grand Jeep Cherokee

Sorry to hear about your fall.
The wife of a mate of mine (R1150R) reckons that we should all carry a pot of boiled potatoes (with skins) and throw them at people that pi55 us off.
The idea is that the potato is soft enough not to actually kill them (mmm.....tempting

) but hard and heavy enough to get their attention.
As you say........... off they go, oblivious to the incident.
Hope you get sorted.
Al

Sorry to hear of this. This is not a good week for us!! Anyway glad you are basically ok. Dont know the answer about the insurance loading but I soon will as I am now in that position of making a claim as a result of something not being my fault. If I find anything out I shall let you know.

Hi Rich
Well bugger me with a ragmans trumpet!!!,not sure which i'm suprised about the most you on the floor,or the fact you've got a pair of Evo's!!!!
Unless the bike is a right off, useing the insurance is iffy, long term it will be anyway, you'll end up paying one way or the other,i'd pay out of your own pocket and keep a clean track record.

Hope you mend quick and the foot dosent become swollen.
10.00 today, I saw, while waiting to pull out, a conga of cars at about 25 mph, led by a lady with a phone in one hand and fag in the other, steering with her inner arms; I swear a make-up bag was on her lap!! Eight miles down the road after that here in retirement land, Mr & Mrs in a vintage people carrier, knew they had the right of way when entering a roundabout that already had me on it, and seemed somewhat annoyed when I demonstrated the quality of my nautilus horn while almost resting on their drivers door.
Is it something to do with the weather warming up? A reminder for certain drivers to renew their blindness for bikes?

LOL

- they're not the full Evo, just the Basics (still cost a bleedin' arm and a leg though). They paid for themselves today though - my ankle still hurts like buggery but at least I've still got the use of it.
Very good point re the insewerance - it's a difficult one, but I'm tempted to claim since a. Reckon to get the bike mint again will cost itro 1.5k with me paying a 300 quid excess and b. I've been paying for insurance for the last 25 years without a single claim so I may as well get the buggers to cough up something back. If I get loaded 25% next year (this is the max amount I'd get according to the guys at Thames HD who deal with this sort of stuff on a regular basis) I can live with that. Don't think I'll be getting the the Gixxer 1K though

Reckon you may have a good point there - I was up in Brum working yesterday so took the bike. Came back to London via a mate's place in Cambridge (my own little 'Long Way Round'). Did nearly 400 miles in all - had an absolute ball. There did seem to be a somewhat large amount of myopic idiots on the road, certainly more than normal. The old 6th Sense was definitely needed on a couple of occasions.
