OT - Suspension query

Post by Ade B »

Replaced R6 rear shock today.

Top fixing not as per manual (ex racer bodge...) the load is bearing through the head of a countersunk allen bolt! but it seems ok - couldn't find mystery spacer but managed with a couple of new washers.... will procure proper bit and replace at some point...

Potentially more expensively, the linkages at the bottom have a few millimetres of vertical play (no horizontal) where the linkage connects to the swing arm - the bike has had a few minor brushes with the tarmac (ahem) and has no doubt covered a few miles (non functioning speedo says 13k which may or may not be original...) Is this something to worry about or is this normal?

Anyway about to put all the bits back on & fire her up... :D

The vertical play in the linkeage suggests something is worn. It's not a major job to pop the bearing out so why not have a look?

thanks for the reply Malc, might give it a run first to see if I notice.... to take the linkages apart I need to support the bike (track bike, no stand to speak of...) - took the shock out hanging by it from the subframe from my dads garage roof truss (which is now 160miles away...). Need to buy some axle stands to put under the foot pegs or something....

I take it that we are talking about the linkage bearings not the swing arm bearing

cheers Steve

have been booked into a cottage in Portland over easter - wouldn't go down too well if I suggested that I stay behind to play with the bike....

may well take you up on it another time.
