That same old hugger question.............again!

Sorry boys and girls. I know you will all be sick of this question and I know I'm going to get a dozen different answers but.............

whats the best looking hugger for a Boxercup rep?

I have seen a few different types on ebay (fit to base of shock, fit to brake caliper fixings, carbon lookalike, real carbon, etc, etc)

Money is no object coz I know I won't buy one because the missus would soon spot it and moan about me "spending even more money on the bloody thing" but it would be nice to know just in case.

As an aside, the SV650 owners site (www.sv650.org) has a separate section (reviews) which pigeon holes all posts relating to certain topics like tyres, bodywork, exhausts, clothing, etc which makes it really easy to find info on a given topic. Might be worth a looksee to see if worth doing same here?

The section already exists. Have a look (search) in recommended products/services I think you'll find something there.
Sandbar does the Ilmberger at the right price but there several other varieties out there to choose from and they sometimes come up in the for sale section.

It's on my shopping list too.
Spend some dosh on 'er indoors. Then, when you buy something so obviously important for the safe running of your bike such as a Hugger, it should be a grief free buy!
If this doesn't work ............. just accept the cold shoulder!
I think that the nicest looking is the Ilmberger. Not the cheapest on the market. Champagne taste and beer money ....... ah well.

Ditto the above, Ilmberger is best looking (some disaster styles to choose from!), bolts up easy behind the rear calliper and weighs about the same as a cheese roll. Only fault is, it's not long enough at the engine end, I extended mine by glueing a strip of plastic to it.

Your missus would spot a new hugger? My missus would take a couple of months to notice if I changed the colour. You'll have to perfect the art of stealth purchaces. If you don't mention changes to your bike, you can convince her she's hallucinating.

I should have one of the huggers that fixes to the rear shock coming up for sale shortly. It's used but in good condition. Let me know if you're interested. Regards Bob

I had a look at the Il**berger one and while I'm sure its a fantastic piece of kit (not wanting to alienate anyone) it is a bit 'obvious', (there, I have now alienated half the membership. Bugger). I would like one that does'nt stand out to much i.e. invisible when fitted, and as I don't ride my bike in the rain (intentionally) I'm not overly bothered about weather protection. More interested in keeping stones, etc off the shock.

Why does nobody make one in a matt rubber finish with the various tread patterns of the leading tyres available as a sticker set??

Whats the BMW version like?

Take a look at pyramid plastics. I have had one of my S for five years, tough as old boots and offers good shock protection. Fits well using deeper bolts on the rear calliper. Not as glamorous as other offerings, but does the job.

p.s. Her Indoors isn't fooled either! I'm sure she's part blood hound when I comes to nice bits and bobs for the S.

I wouldn't call it invisible but if you have a 5" rim I've a carbon Pyramid hugger for sale (buying a 5.5" rim meant I had to buy a new one - thanks Sandbar). I'd echo Simon's comments - they work very well. It's in excellent condition, 2 years old. Send me a mail if you're interested.

DON'T DO IT!!!!

If you want to know the reason why - undo the paralever arm and swivel the bevel gear through its travel and you will see exactly why the Ilmberger hugger finishes where it does!!!!!

Then go and search on UKGS'er forum for threads about other brands of huggers rubbing on swing arm, tyres, exhausts, brake pipes and probably just about everything to the rear of the gearbox!!

Then to lighten up a bit, go and search 'Pelican' for the results of a recent 'group buy' of ******d huggers - it's absolutely hilarious.

IMHO Ilmberger are the only people who appear to have thought it through. But I would say that - wouldn't I??

And no harm in reminding anyone who is yet to fit the Ilmberger that if you do, you must remove the OE shock cover or it will put a hole in your nice c/f.

Exactly - as written large on the instructions that have gone out with the huggers recently.

I'm not havin a go at you Sandbar (or the Ilmberger packing).
It's just a word to the wise or those who believe a dealer would do it without error.
Mine was installed by S*C and they still cocked it up and forgot to remove the OE.....

Their product comes via Wunderlich and, when I last had the opportunity to look, came with the instructions in German only.
