General suspension query

Post by mikerbull1 »

Hello All,

I have recently bought an 1100s following years of extreme sports bike riding (R1, GSXr'S ETC)
Absolutely love the bike but am a little lost with such limited suspension ajustment. Is it me or is there only one ajustment knob for Preload, comp damp and rebound damp on the front and just preload and dampening on the back. Unfortunately I have no manuals with the bike so any help would be appreciated.

Regards,, Mike Bull, Leicester

You are correct. If the shocks are newish, then they will perform OK.When they get about 15000-20000 on them, they could do with changing.change to fully adjustable ohlins/wilbers etc if you like to fiddle lots.A vast improvement over stock items.

suspension replacement options

Post by cc mac »

i am currently thinking of upgrading the shocks on my 1100s. it has 32000 on the clock now. i am convinced that this would be the most effective improvement to performance. i am considering ohlins, maxton and possibly others. i don't want to lose the simple pre load adjustment on the back as i often change the pre load when carrying a pillion and can't be bothered messing around with c spanners. do any of the other makes retain this method? what will it cost? is it a simple job to do yourself?

Welcome to 2 new posters on the forum.
Might I suggest you trawl back (or even use Pauls all singing search button at the top) through the early Boxertech postings as you will find a lot of postings on suspension.

regards Harry.

Ohlins come with a remote preload ajuster as standard, the other two can have it added at extra cost.

As for price?? same old story phone around, alternatively wait to pounce on someone here when they sell up,who decides the grass is greener somewhere else!!!

hi i bought a pair of ohlins from gromit and i was amazed at the difference they made. they took a bit of time to set up for me, but i am as quick on my 1100s as i am on my rsv round the bends.
