Can anyone recommend a sync tool for balancing the two throttles on a boxer? :?

Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.

Twinmax seems to be the favoured method but just to be different i've always used these.

What they all said...
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Thanks Jason, All sorted, I bought a Carbtune from Motorworks in the end. I felt this would be more useful for my other vehicles.......OK....it was cheaper!!!

Jason, thanks for your offer of assistance. I'm actually in Chandlers Ford, near Winchester, near Southampton, nearer you :)

Cheers

Flippin lovely. Once I finally got the paper clip far enough in to make contact with the red/white wire it was all pretty straight forward. Amazing what difference a micron of movement at the TPS seems to have on the meter reading - no wonder mine was running like a dog and ticking over so high. It's all balanced and stuff now and runs really nicely but I still can't get the tickover right down even with the bypass screws nearly all the way in so I might reduce the setting of the TPS when I get time. Ta for the help.

Andrew - just up the road then - if ever you need to borrow any tools or a garage etc gimme a shout

So what's all this about a Paper clip...I didn't see that in the manual? :?

High Tickover....mine has slightly high tickover too, only by 200 rpm, ever since I fitted a Laser and Chip. Logic would say that you adjust the throttle stop screws (sealed stop screws of the throttle valve in the manual) to reduce idle speed, well that's how you adjust twin SU's anyway!...but the manual says this is a NO NO ... Adjust only using the Air Bypass screw...the big brass slotted screw on the rear of the unit?

I'm a little unfamiliar with all the parts of the bike, an Oilhead virgin if you like. Previous bikes was an Airhead and two K's.

Might have a go at it tonight, if your not busy your welcome to pop over!

Andrew - I had my NS throttle return spring fail a while ago and had to dismantle the left throttle body - I didn't reset the TPS correctly (read AT ALL) when I reassembled it so things weren't right. To set the TPS you need to shove a paper clip up inside the TPS connection to read the voltage and set it to the correct position - Crucial has a detailed post of the procedure elsewhere - thats what I was doing this weekend.

As for the tickover speed - yep, the big brass screws. If you can't get it down far enough like that (like I can't) then you might need to move the TPS and maybe adjust those throttle stop screws.

I'm busy tonight, and most nights unfortunately except for Wednesdays at the moment so any Wed is fine if ever you're in need

Thanks Jason,

I appreciate the offer. Had a quick go at it tonight, got the idle down and balanced, but still need to adjust the Throttle balance, they don't pick up quite at the same time. Sensitive aren't they!!! :o

Might give it another go tomorrow, Cheers,
