Chips & Jumpers

Post by Desmo904 »

Hi Guys,
I'm new here, so if I ask dumb questions I'm sorry.

So - I've had my '01 S for nearly a fortnight now, and I'm more impressed with it every trip. I'm really not happy with how quiet it is with the standard zorst. I reckon a little bit more noise makes for safer riding, (besides, the wife's F650 Scarver + carbon can drowns me out!)

Tonight I've fitted my new Remus Y-piece, and it sounds OK now, even with the standard mufflers still present.
The bike came fitted with the BBpower chip, so I've got the left side panel off and delved into the electronics box up front. Darren from Motorworks suggested that I treat it as "stage 2" and remove the jumpers that should be present.
Now I'm confused, because I find that the yellow square cap connects terminals 30 and 87. Looking in the instructions that accompany the chip, these connections are for "stage 3".
Maybe the previous owner ran the bike with a race exhaust system.
Anyway - my question;
To configure the chip for stage 2, do I just leave the yellow square cap off? This would mean that there are no connections, which is what I think I need.

Thanks in anticipation for all your good advice. :?

Thanks for te reply Crucial.
I looked at the web page you suggested - the diagrams in my instructions regarding the jumper lead positions are different to those on the web page. It seems that there was a change round about March 2000, and I think mine is an earlier version.
I'll give the bike a try using my instructions first I think, (That's if it ever stops p*ss*ng down!!)

Thanks for your help :)

Well I've been for a blast this evening to see if it all still works.
I think it's now got a flat spot at about 175!!

Seriously - the engine seems more eager to rev, but still with good dollops of mid-range. I suppose that's the result of ditching the cat, more than anything else.
It now idles at about 1100rpm, which seems a little high. I did the twisting the throttle twice with the igntion on and the engine off thing.
Would someone give me the benefit of their experience, and tell me whether this is normal and/or what I should do about it?

Many thanks
Phil

Yup, after removing my cat, it ticks over around 1100 to 1300rpm
