'Accidental' new 1100S owner

Post by metropolis2k »

So I'd made a decision that if I found a good deal on an 1100S I'd pick one up as a second bike. I already have an 1150GS and having ridden with a mate on his BCR for a while I'd picked up the 'S' bug.

I'd set up some saved searches on eBay and AutoTrader and had been monitoring them for a couple of months, not expecting to find anything. Last week an auction was ending I had my eye on and by the time I'd had a couple of beers with BCR friend, I decided to put a cheeky bid. I fully expected the bike to go for hundreds if not a grand more than my bid so imagine my surprise * when I won it for a fair bit less than my bid was. (* my actual reaction was "Shit, I won it" and much laughter)

Fast forward to Saturday and a trip to Wales to pick it up (admittedly I hadn't really checked where the bike was so Wales was a slight shock) on the back of a BCR. We get there and the bike is lovely, well looked after and the previous owner was a nice bloke who also happened to be a mechanic.

Did all the paperwork and handed over the cash and only then found out that despite not mentioning it the bike had FSH all from main dealers up until the previous owner who did the work himself. He also then pulled out a slightly scuffed seat cover which he said he didn't bother including because it looked crap. I got it home and it polished up like new so I'm well happy. There's a few bits I need to sort on the bike (a few missing screws here and there and the rear shock is a bit corroded) but all in all I got a massive bargain.

Having been a bit unsure about whether I'd enjoy it, and not expecting to even buy a bike in the first place, I've done about 300 miles this weekend and have to say I absolutely love it.

Here it is at Snetterton getting noise tested for an upcoming track day (I'm certainly noticed in traffic more with the laser, y-piece and chip than the GS!)

Sweet! Quite possibly my favourite colour scheme too - and that includes the BCR's.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Thanks chaps - I was originally eyeing up the standard grey model but very glad I've got the grey/yellow special scheme in the end.

Looking forward to the inevitable mods! First up system luggage...

Totally agree there.

Mr. Spock is my role model so be advised; I possess no (discernible) sense of humour.

It's all VFR (DCT) round here now. STILL missing my 1100s tho.
