I use an Oxford; it fixes fore and aft with straps. It is expandable vertically and has a map pocket on top. Useful as a chest cushion on longer journeys.

I use a bagster, with this you have the protection of the cover, just don`t go too large on the bag, don`t know how this compares to oysters oxford but bagster bags are larger than the BMW egg shaped bags.
Ebay is good for a bag but you may have to buy the cover new for a colour match whish may be more expensive in the long run.

Edit, red one on ebay at the moment, £110.

I have been using a Famsa one for the past 7 years

Only downside is having to carry the separate waterproof cover for really heavy downpours.

I used the Bagster on mine, when the bags not on, the cover protects the tank very well. I think from memory the bag was the Athena, however i'm not sure if that particular one is still available.

I don't think there is a truly-waterproof tank bag, but the Baglux ones are good (albeit - your capital outlay is greater when you factor in the tank cover)

The Famsa ones (as has been said) are pretty good, and allow you to refuel without undoing the harness.

I've not tried any others on the R1100s.

Famsa would be my recommendation :)

other thing with the famsa is if you have more than one bike you can buy a separate base for each bike and you only need one bag - anyone with a 650 Versys? I have an unused famsa base

I used a BMW egg for years and when I finally out grew it I bought a famsa secondhand on here .
I found the egg easy to attach although a bit small .
The Famsa is good but i'm probably alone here in finding it a bit fiddly to connect the zip especially when the bag is overloaded... or in poor light ( ie dark).
It can become tedious on long days at fuel stops and I feel hanging it to the side on the zip when refuelling would damage it.

I use an Oxford bag - comes with a base which straps to the tank (I recall it is strapped to the headstock at the front and the seat brackets at the back) and then the bag zips onto this.

The base is also handy for putting your wallet / phone / camera in if you're just on a day trip and don't need anything else with you. (It's a zipped, clear, 'pouch')

It's an Oxford 'First Time'.

Nigel, you are not alone - it can be fiddly and also when "overloaded", it's difficult to see instruments but I still like it
