Don't panic

Out for a ride yesterday and the warning light came on. Oh f*** it what's it say in the manual - stop and summon help.
The bikes running OK and the brakes are working so what could it be?
Warning light was on last week when the bike had been stood for a few days and it was very cold stayed on until work and then went off when I switch off and on again must have been lack of charge in the battery. Not a year old yet and showing signs of imminent demise.
Anyway since it was running OK and I had done 50 miles it was probably not the battery this time so something much more serious? Stopped for the bacon sandwich and had a think - must be the lights then - one has failed - no they were all working.
Got home and pondered some more while cleaning all the filthy salt c**p off. Then I remembered the fiendishly clever electrics in the back light.
If the tail light goes the bike send a reduced voltage to the stop light but you can't tell this without taking the lamp out and looking at the filaments.
