Rocker Cover Removal

Hi
Hubby and myself are about to take off one of the rocker covers on our 2 spark; replacing it with an undamaged one from Motorworks. The damaged cover is a result of us dropping it!

But what the hell - it's only money when it comes down to it!

The job looks easy enough but is there anything we should be aware of that may go wrong?

Should we replace the gasket seal or is it OK to use the original if it is undamaged?

How much oil is going to come out when we remove the cover?

Any comments would be useful!

Hi Pauline,

You should be fine, my bike has still got the original seals on it at 67k.

Expect about an egg cup full of oil to dribble out

ps when you put it back on make sure the centre seal is seated on the rocker cover.

Blow the crap out of the spark plug area via a straw.
Have an old washing up bowl under the rocker to collect oil.
Clean the oil off the seal before refitting.
Do not overtighten the bolts - I don't have the torque settings with me.

one other thing, the spark plug rubber and a damping rubber inside the cover are a fiddle to get on right.

Cylinder head cover Tightening Torque = 9 Nm, i.e. not very much.
