Marcello is back: I need new valve covers thanks to Wunder..

Hello to all,

I have just fitted a Wunderlich kit with high handlebar, the handling is so great and the bike is so well balanced now, that both the foot pegs and the cylindr head covers are in a sorry state after only two days of hard cornering.
I tried a shorter Paralever strut to improve bike height, but I didn't find any improvement; with the Wunderlinch kit the R1100S looks like a Ducati Multistrada and its handling is much more than the standard bike and you can touch the road with foot pegs and cylinder heads very easliy , so at this point I need an advice, infact I want to purchase a set of cylinder head cover with pads, I'm sure that after milling the fins on every cylinder cover the standard BMW part will break soon , so according to your experience which is the best cylinder cover on the market ?

I think you may need a longer rear suspension unit to get more ground clearance like the 04 BCR because none of the cylinder head covers will stand much abuse before getting ripped off and you have 10mm less clearance anyway.

Which unit is the 04 BCR ? I need also to substitute the old Showa rear unit and this could be the chance to get two improvements at the price of noe only..

This years Boxer Cup Replica has longer spring on rear but I think it is still the (not very adjustable) Showa unit. Mine has Ohlins bought second-hand and is recommended. Others on the board have positive views on other aftermarket shocks and they will no doubt add their thoughts later.

I saw a set of carbon fibre valve covers with alloy pads, they're made by Touratech, I think that they could be of assistance together with a longer rear suspension unit.
My bike has 35000 Kilometers, and the rear unit shows a little of wear, I'd like to fit a set of WP shock absorbers but they're extremely expensive !

The standard shock is very basic to begin with and likely to be even less good after 20ooo miles. Try changing the shock if you can afford to - it'll make you faster than any amount of carbon bits

Yes you're right,

I met an Ohlins engineer today, he said my rear unit is ball of s..t, and the front is also totaly out of order, anyway he gave me his congratulations for the great scraps on the 'head covers and footpegs !

From memory its cheaper to buy new magnesium covers from Motorworks than it is to bolt on the carbon fibre jobbies.

What you want are engine bars like the GS..

I might bolt a set of roller bearings on the 'head covers, they'll lower the friciton, am I right ?

What about this cylindr cover ?
