Agreed Steve - no way on God's earth should we consider cancelling WP2014 but just enjoy the weekend (as I know folk will) and then have a look at what to do for 2015...

Hi all,
As someone who has spent much time organising Boxertrix weekends away I will now throw my 2ps worth in. One reason why we moved away from B-Y-C and the Royal Oak was the fact that they want £80-00 per room per night, Breakfast is extra (around £14-00 per person for a full welsh) and they take full payment at time of booking. I do recall that some would not book because of this. From my own view the Wild Pheasant has made the organising of the weekend much easier as it appears that they want our custom and have done a very good job in the last couple of years to make us welcome. I do agree that B-Y C has more of a buzz but it is at a price.

Access to Ireland is so easy via Holyhead or Fishguard/ Pembroke and a little known fact is the ferry can be absolutely free if your spouse shops in Tesco as Clubcard points are worth 4 x their face value with Stena and Irish Ferries,

I would be up for an Eire trip, depending on dates, I personally like our regular annual weekends, Wales in April, Borders in May and Yorks in Sept usually.
I reckon July and August are best avoided because of peoples summer hols/ kids off school etc, so that leaves June as a likely timeframe?
I sadly couldn't make the southwest trip, but I would like to attend if there was to be another? Would October be too late for a trixter weekend?

Being honest Steve, nowadays October is often quite nice, certainly the first or second week.

The Eire thing, and perhaps the Irish contingent can confirm if this is "doable" as a weekend, could be cross over at South Wales, Fishguard - Rosslare. Stop overnight, ride up through the Wicklow mountains, stopover near/in Dublin crossover at Dublin/Dun Loaghaire to Holyhead.. any of the Scottish guys that wanted to join could come down on the Stranraer to Belfast/Larne crossing? It would mean having effectively two ride outs one for the ones from the north and one for the guys from the South. With a group dinner for all on the Saturday night? When I checked the ferry was about £80 return (for the different routes) now whether we couold get a group discount I don't know but as Eyore has said those with Tesco Club points etc could well get free crossings

So Irish guys do we have representation here to cover/organise north and south?

Can we start another thread about an irish weekend this one is muddled enough as it is

I have found it easy enough to do home to Dublin in a day but that's travelling alone not in a group

Wexford could be a good place for a meet great camp site in town lot's of bars good food available just about everywhere i seem to remember that the campsite closes in september

Would there be any mileage in next year visiting some local attractions during the ride out?

I know traditionally we spend the entire day riding but I just wondered if perhaps an hour or so at some attraction brewery tour/slate quarry tour etc would be of interest?

I contacted the WPH to pass on our wishes for the function room bar to be open and the concerns some had regarding the choice of beers available, Sarah (who was functions manager but is now general manager) replied.

Don't worry about the real Ale, We have just started to serve "Llangollen Bitter" which has gone down a storm so this is certainly something that we aim to widen. We are planning to have more available over the coming months so all being well I would like to aim to have at least another 1 or 2 by April next year. We have already started to look into "Wrexham Lager" as there is a demand for it. Failing that I can assure you that we will have a variety of real Ale available by bottle I am in talks at the moment with "Purple Moose Brewery" regarding 4 of their products.

So if it helps guys, the hotel is already making progress in its bar offerings and is happy to provide the function room bar for our exclusive use

Hopefully this will go some way to easing the concerns of some. If anyone wishes to stay elsewhere in the town (as happens at BYC) then of course as always we can still congregate for the group meal on the Saturday evening.

I would however suggest that as Llangollen gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday nights it may be prudent to leave the bikes in the WPH car park as being that few hundred yards outside the town means they'll be a bit more secure.

there is a single supplement I'm afraid, not sure what it is tho'

I think that the single supplement is £15 per night. We could be persuaded to stay over on the Sun night without to much trouble

Well that's it, I am in. Just booked for 25/26/27 so looking forward to meeting you all and having two days of great Welsh rideouts. Hoping Peter, SteveP and a few more stay for sunday night.
