I think they just take the card number to secure the booking Steve

We did have to pay a deposit this time around, Previously card no was enough to secure the booking.

I am very interested but will not be paying up front until nearer the date.The hotel groups finances have been weak for some time,and money may be lost.

The hotel is under new ownership now Reg

Don't forget any payments made via credit card is protected, as others have said just a booking deposit is all that's req'd usually

Customers who pay on a credit card can claim their money back from the card company through provisions under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
