I'm in agreement with Bob where B-y-C is concerned. I've had a good few weekends at the WP, and for what we've been paying it's fine. However, the beer is utterly dreadful (and there's no choice) and the bar far too small.

Great thing about B-y-C is there's a huge choice of places to stay at - from extremely cheap to expensive. Last time, a few of us stopped at the Chinese B&B down the road and it was great - and very cheap too - and only 400yds or so from the Royal Oak where everyone congregates each evening.

Whilst the RO isn't the cheapest place to eat & drink, it's perfect in terms of venue - there's enough room for 40+ people to sit/stand outside (weather doesn't matter as they have covers/heaters) no problem at all. Great choice of ales too. We tend to grab a bar meal on fri night and then eat as a group on saturday where the food has been superb.

Cool, I guess it'll be too late to cancel the WPH for next year as people have booked, unless it's possible to cancel without charge? I have no real preference :)

Mind you Llangollen also has a huge range of accomodation and pubs available too (probably greater than BYC), all within walking distance of the WPH.

Thank you.

I must now go and speak to my friend Cote du Rhone and seek further advice

Ohhhhhhh now it's started.

Have agree with BD and Gromit re: Betwsy. The WF is great for a single location for all but it is a bit bland and a tad isolated. One of the reasons Hayden and I decided not to stay this year and ride up on the day.

In addition to all the benefits Gromit pointed out, Betwsy just has a lot more of a buzz about it !!

Surely not too late to cancel the WF ??

I can feel a poll coming on

I've always been a bit puzzled why everyone stays in the grounds of the WPH, certainly on the Friday evening. The UKGS'r guys use the Hand Hotel just down the road from the WPH and I know they all go trawling around the pubs of Llan on a Friday, and some on Saturday, evenings. Where for some reason we all sit in the WPH?

It really is a short amble either down the road or down the nice riverside walk

The difference being Steve that everyone stays spread all over Betwsy and then congregate at the RO for good food, good beer (various) and chat.

Slightly odd to all stay in same place and then all wonder off and do our own thing :? I thought it was supposed to be an opportunity to meet up, not all bugger off!

I know that we've paid a deposit for our room, so it's probable that the other peeps who have booked will have done the same.

I'm more than happy to go to Llangollen and the WP in 2014 with perhaps a change of location the year after!

I'll just check the diary

Is this ok with everyone then? WPH for 2014 and a change for 2015? Perhaps have a proper chat about it at the WPH?

As to Wales 2015 I'm going to lay my cards on the table and say I'm all for going back to B-y-C. I'll probably even stay at the same place as before (ie the small Chinese B&B).

As DT says, there's a nice buzz about the place and even when extremely busy, it can swallow crowds up no problem. And there's a Cotswold outdoor shop too. :)
