Didn't realise the 900 Divvy ever had a factory pannier option? I was under the impression only third party options where available

They were actually made by Krauser for Yamaha, and were model specific.
They were a Yamaha part.
later they were adapted for the GTS1000.
I had one of those as well

third party then :)

The Suzuki Bandit GT has a similar set up, and none of them ever look as neat and integrated as BMW ones. They always appear to be tacked on accessories, I guess 'cos they're not "planned" for in the original design stages so Krauser or Givi et al have to work around the design and as such are compromised.

Yes and no.
They were model specific, in that for the Divvy, they used a different mounting system.
Whereas the generic Krausers used a kind of wing bracket, for the Divvy, it was a piece of moulded plastic that fitted to the subframe, via 2 longs bolts through the side panels.
I don't think any manufacturer actually make their own panniers.
They are ususally made by a third party.

But some are specifically designed from the original conception to accomodate panniers and the manufacturers are given the designs of those by the motorcycle designers, as per BMW, and say Pan's/FJR13's/GTR14's

As opposed to cobbled together after thought solutions which is what you're describing

OK OK I give up.
YOU WIN.
Jeez does it really matter that much.
Point I was making was that they didn't come off.
