Hi,
Just bought a BC ('04, 28,000 miles) and enjoying my first few rides. Never had a BM or a shaft drive before but I must admit, its a very nice ride. I race an R6 in the Derby Pheonix pre-injection class so it makes a nice change not to be screaming a bike to pieces! As for the vibration, I also have a Laverda Jota (triple 180 degree crank), so the Beemer is quite civilised in comparison! First impressions:
*Front dramatically good and very 'planted'
*Engine 'lazy' but fast enough for the road
*Good pillion bike
*Too quiet, will get a race Laser
*I reckon I would have no problems satying with a sports bike on this
*Front stoppers very strong
*Great looking bike (red, white and blue) with real presence
*Not sure about the Pilots, don't really work unless they have some heat in'em (unfair to judge as really too cold at the moment). Rear skittish even with pre-load backed off
Anyway, hope to see some of you at Sherben'n Emett sometime (North Yorks). Come and say hello if you see a guy riding a BC in Arlen Ness leathers with holes in!
Regards
Tyrap

Welcome to the site tyrap. That red white and blue colour scheme is definitely the nicest BMW paint job on the R1100S IMHO. I'm sure some Yorkshiremen will be along shortly to say hello too.
Cheers,
Paul

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Some good points there. I've got the same model and had it 2 years. The idea was to keep the mileage down on my RC30.
The front end is really something else. I'm so use to the front diving when braking this is a revelation. On a sports bike your always cranking your neck up braking for corners but on this it's so easy. Visibilty through the corner is much improved as you stay so much higher.
If I had a criticism it is a bit lazy you are right but the engine is deceptive. The old world war 2 bomber drone hides the speed until you look at the speedo. 80 - 100 so easy and to be honest that's fast enough for me. A bit more acceleration would be nice but I waited for the 1200S for so long as I knew it would be better but, sorry lads, I just thought BMW lost the plot there. However now you lads are modifying them a bit I am warming to them!
Mine has the cat removed. I thought noisy enough without attracting unwanted attention.
On bendy roads I keep up with my mates on their 1000cc missiles no problem.
The combination of the brakes a stable front end is very good. At the BMW track day last year I was amazed at how many 'conventional' bikes you could out brake into the hairpin. With your race experience you will love it.
I fitted the Metzeler M3's. I like them. Maybe not a long life tyre if you want to tour but lots of grip and stability even on cold days. At Mallory they were only moving around if you really pushed and hit some cracks in the track surface.
My mates got a HP2 on order. Looking at the youtube clip at Daytona I can't wait for a go.
