brown crud

Post by northernboxer »

my bike has been laid up over winter so i took it for a spin to warm it up prior to changing the oil and filter.whilst messing about i noticed a small amount of browny coloured crud had dripped onto the off side exhaust pipe.having done a search on past threads i am thinking its from the airbox breather.
i have had the bike over 12 months and never drained the airbox because i didn't know you could/should,
my question is,
A) am i right?
B) where the hell are the drain plugs?
C) do i need to strip any bodywork off to get to them?

a) Probably
b) Look up and to the left of the gearbox filler, little rubber bung hanging down from airbox with clip around it.
c) No

You might want to try and get a funnel or something under the bung before you pull it off, its gonna be messy

For some reason (I think the answer is in another posting somewhere) the right hand side always gets more water/condensation in it than the left but check both.
Have a cloth underneath to soak up the oily/watery fluid as it can stain a little.
No longer a motorcycle owner.

Also protect the castings when pulling down on the clip and plug.... I slipped and scratched the clear varnish.

thanks eveyone for your advice :D

job done, got about half an egg cup out,and like you said, most of it from the right hand side.

seeing as i was already messing, took off the bodywork and removed the air filter, new one order, old one was full of flies and all sorts of dead wildlife.
