I am contemplating riding around the UK this year, probably in June. Taking the train into Dover, up to John O'Groats, down the other side, thru the Lake distric, Wales to Land's End and back to Dover.

Can you guys give me some must-see pointers? Would anyone care to meet if I do end up doing this and in the area?

If the time and place fits then I would kindly meet up with you. I am in Kent, near the London border.

Hi,

If you do fancy York, it would be rude of me not to offer accomodation if you need it.

Cheers
Rick.

I want to go from the Channel Tunnel, visit the Ace Cafe, up to John O'Groats, find Nessie, cross the highlands to the Mull of Kintyre, south through Wales to Cornwall to relive the Arthur legends and Land's End, and back to the tunnel to go home.

Must see places or must ride roads in between?

Thanks Rick, may just hold you to it as York is somewhere in between where I am coming from and where I am going. :)

Crikey, where do you start!? Find Applecross in NW Scotland. Any road round there is a must ride (there aren't many!!). Also, on your way up to JoG there are a few alternative routes that Blackal, Man-of-Mystery, Leasky and others can recommend. It all depends on how much time you want to take over it.
In hiatus from motorcycles.

Hello Gijs. I live in Aberdeen in NE Scotland. To be honest there is not much to see there but I am only an hours ride from places like Braemar and Ballater, which are in the Scottish Highlands and certainly worth a visit as the views are very good indeed. From there you can continue West.

The West side of Scotland may be a better option for you. However, if I am home (get back to UK on June 26th), you are more then welcome to visit , stay overnight and experience some good Scottish hospitality.

The roads around Aberdeen and Shire are progressive and quick but not much to see or visit untill you get further south to Perth and Edinburgh area.

I personally prefer the riding around Pitlochry and the West of Scotland.

Unsure what route you are planning but heading north via Fort William, Applecross, Torridon Peninsula and then onto JOG, prior to heading south again via Inverness, may be an option.

Please keep us all informed as to your plans.

What sort of time have you to do the trip? Will it be a quite direct run or will you have time to meander?

Pleased you're thinking of York, its a lovely place and stacks of history / character
