Headlights are useless...

I have seen a couple of German R1100S at Garmisch which had a single PIAA spotlight mounted in the middle of the front suspension wishbone just above the mudguard. Seemed quite effective.

Beware uprating the bulbs to 100W. I did this in an old Honda car that I owned - 100w/80W on dip. When I had to replace one of the bulbs I found that the bulb had fused into the bulb holder as they were not rated for this wattage.

There have also been cases of high watt bulbs damaging some plastic headlamp lenses, however the S still uses glass so should be okay in this respect.

no heat issues with hid the half the power usage .

Haven't got HID yet but is on the shopping list for this year. However, I have read somewhere that 8000K is at the high (blue end) of the spectum - looks great but actually emits less far less light than a 4000K, so be careful with what you order in the HID range, (4-6K seems to be the best).

And as for for 100W main bulbs would agree to be careful there to. I had an Orion in the 80's fitted it with 80/100W bulbs, six months later it fried the relay and and the wiring loom to the fuse box!

I have 6000k in the s and 8000k in the cbr and i have noticed little between them just very bright and useful, i think people can read too much about stuff and get side track by rubbish info on the net.

Upgraded to HID from hid50.com at the weekend ... 6000k (50W) system ... both dipped and main with ultra slim ballasts ... first HID system I have ever had and NEVER going back to normal bulbs.

I meant halfords "Super Brilliance", which are 55W, not 100W.
