B...stard Remus...

Post by timbox2 »

My lovely new Remus has fallen out of favour already.
Only fitted it Thursday then coming back from a ride yesterday noticed a bad knocking coming from back.
On investigation the rubber mounts had been pushed through and fallen out, must have happened when I was fitting it, and try and try as I might, I could not get the things to stay put when pushing it onto the pegs, the OE cans have the brackets peened over so this cant happen, but not the Remus, dead smooth exit.

I have put the OE can back on for now and have cleaned and roughened up the holes and put Araldite in with the bushes and will try again tomorrow.....

Remus fitting problem

Post by rickers »

Hi

Not sure how the 1100S silencer is fitted but assume it is similar to my R1200S? I too had the same problem but noticed it before I started the bike! I found that the rubber bushes on the Remus silencer were covered in some sort of lubricant - the inner parts being dry simply push out the bushes when you try and fit.

My simple cure - push out the bushes and clean off with white spirit then refit - they need as bit of persuasion to get them back in again. Then a small amount of grease on the fitting 'prongs' - goes on a treat!

Finally done it, Araldited them in, think the brackets on the cans were maybe fractionally out causing an abnormal amount of friction between the prongs and bushes, still all well now for the Ace tomorrow.

Sounded great at the Ace...
2011 Harley-Davidson FLD Switchback - yeah, I know. I've always wanted one though...
