Correct Fuel ?

Post by Motostratos »

Is there a recommended fuel type for the R1100S ?

I generally split between unleaded and super unleaded, but does it matter ?

Any info gratefully received !

Thanks,

Nick

I don't remember finding any discernable difference in my R1100S. Go with the cheaper option, says I.

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Well there by hangs a tale, haveing always used super unleaded and changed plugs every 1500 miles i've left it this year as an experiment, and used normal unleaded,it hasn't been touched since before our unscheduled use of,going to Monza.

Well i've had enough, yes it starts bang on the button and ticks over like a swiss watch at a 1000 revs, and it's as flat as a witches tit!! it's absolutely shite,i've heard the' i can't tell the difference' on fuel thing feck me it's like night and day,i'm in the process of tracking down some Bosch plugs, tappets have been set, time to get the show back on the road.

Sounds like OCD to me.

Plugs every 6k

Fuel more than a month and it's lost 50% of it's bang.

Just use the fecking thing a bit more and it will feel fine.

I also have OCD but thats more to do with cleaning than how the bike feels.

Or get rid and buy a K12 the extra power will make you forget how shite it's running.

Me I am a numpty and don't have the technical nounce to think humm this is shite.

I'm with Winger. Not only can I tell the difference between regular and super (super being the best), I can tell the difference between brands. My S has a very distinct preference for either Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate 98, where the last gives the most power. So much more, that the first time I exited the BP gasstation on my S it was on 1 wheel. Feck regular, I'll pay more for the good stuff.

Thanks Chaps.

I do get a fair bit of 'pinking' using standard unleaded, but less so when using Super. Does anyone else get this problem ?

Yeah, low rpm accelerating results in pinging on regular. Not so on premium.

Fuel Mileage

Post by D Man »

While on the subject of fuel...I've had my '01 S for about 2 months now and I'm getting 32 - 34 mpg. I was hoping for much higher as specs I've read online indicate 45 mpg. Only mods I know of are cat elimination pipe and Z-Technic cans. Would this modification cause such a drop in mpg or should I investigate further? Running smoother the more I ride 'er!

You should be getting 45 - 50 easily.

WOW!
I always opt for the cheapest fuel available, me 1100S has just over 40K and seems to perform just tickety-boo
The bike regularly does 140+ miles before the fuel light comes on.
If it aint broke, don't fix it :)
