I have to carry around a large laptop bag and don't want to faffle around with too many rok straps/bungees every time I get on and off, so need some form of flat base/rack.
Any suggestions?
Could one attach 4 roof rack type clamps to the luggage rails and then cut down the two rails so providing a base?

Hi Tripe,
I personally would'nt pack the N/B that way. I bought one of those back packs especially designed for Notebooks.
Vibrations get to the works... even though most of it is solid state.

you could get a smaller lap top
I recently bought one of the mini Vaio jobbies as I was fed up with lugging around a normal sized laptop and paper files to meetings - its titchy, light and much less hassle to cart around than my previous Toshiba. The small screen is offset by the excellent resolution. I'm pretty pleased with it so far.
Alternatively you could try a ventura sport rack - one bungee through the handle and the jobs a good 'un.

I was told so by the importer at the NEC the other yeartripe wrote:Can you mount the Ventura brackets when pannier rails are already fitted? It certainly looks the best solution.

It's not how fast you ride, it's how you ride fast.

yep, I think you have to take the rails off and put it all back together again with the rack as they share some fixing points- from memory its dead easy - keep meaning to put mine back on...
the sports rack looks way better than the Givi stuff - although a top box is probably more practical
