Cool, so is have drained my oil, but what did i forget to get a crush washer. and i can't find the old one in the drained oil, wonder if it even had one on, did not recall seeing on we i took the drain plug out
Does anybody know what the dimensions are for the crush washer, also is it aluminum or copper? BMW will be closed tomorrow so i will have to find one somewhere else

alright i manged to find the outer diameter, apparently 16mm, surely this should be a standard 16mm crush washer, i can't see that it would be a speciality part...
Already checked, no luck I am sure i will come right tomorrow, if not i will go get one from BMW on Monday, will have to take the car to work... AARRGGG!

as far as I'm aware this is an after market fix. I I don't think the old part causes any premature wear on the engine, its just an annoying rattle that mates take the piss out of when you start up.
Cheers, cobbster.
I vaguely remember reading somewhere (pelican ? ) that the chain slapping around at start up can damage the (plastic?) chain guide and apart from the damage that this could potentially do ,changing the guide is a complete engine strip............ or maybe i've an overactive imagination ,either way i haven't got around to changing the tensioner
