I agree Chris barn door = hot and that as on an evening that was temperate.

Regards packing! on our last trip I had the usual for 14 days 7x t shirt undies socks and 2 pairs of shoes and 2 pairs of trousers.

Judy had the same 7x plus 3 dresses one pair of high heels one large handbag all fitted very well with room too spare.

The tank bag had judys make up bag, oh and the hair straighteners (I could not live without those) and all of the various chargers

phone/ipod/shaver & camera.

I collected the Gs this evening from Oxford and had a real blast on the way home and then had to have a re think about a change.

Other than the fact that an RT fully loaded is the thick end of 13K I had to ask myself what would be the real benefits, and the only real one would be the ability to have a higher cruising speed IE 100mph plus against the Gs which is about 90mph to remain comfortable for Judy.

So at present even after my ravings about the RT the GS will remain, on my ride to BMW Oxford this evening I thought about all of the plus points and negative points about both bikes the only real negative about the Rt was the mirrors to the point that I actually hated them.

On arrival at NOG much to the sales guys dismay I did not do a deal, so it looks like GS city for at least the next year.

Phew just saved myself 13K.

Think I might go buy a new Jacket on Saturday and a new mobile phone as I managed to drown the phone this AM.

As your starting to travel more with your other half i'll watch with interest how you get on bike wise,this two up lark is a tad different from the me,me,me that exists on most boards.

June and i still talk about a trip we did from the Mugello GP just outside Florence to Barcelona via Andorra,we got crucified in the heat,hence why the Traillie market is so big,plenty of suspension for those crap mountain pass roads some weather protection,but not too much because of the heat,and some decent comfort,and with a bit twiddling you can turn e'm into a pretty focused bike,there must be some interest!! at the last look my Tiger posting had,had 8000 hits!!!.

Well I have A 1200RT in the garage tonight now that the S has gone for its 12k service, Can't say I'd complain too much if it stayed there!!! No intention of changing the S yet but the RT ticks many boxes--- I must be older than I think!!!! South of France tomorrow?? No problem.

True.

But at 13K the GS still ticks the right boxs for the next 18 months.

Have just started thinking/talking about next year and Corsica is starting to look like a plan.

Well as you all know I recently had a R1150RT which in my opinion is a great bike.

As all have said if you have to take into account your other half when buying a bike it is hard to find one that ticks all the boxes for what most of us want it to do.

The 1150RT did really well in the Pyrnees this year and handled the twisties really well. The tank range is excellent and when we had to do a bit of motorway into France it was again excellent. I did 450 miles from Bilbao to Andorra using twisty roads in 9 1/2 hours and that was with a 3/4 hour stop for lunch included.

It was a hard desicion when I came back as the 1150RT just lacked a bit of oomph for me and I wanted just a tad more. I took out the 1200RT but although the engine was good, Alexis found she was getting buffeted on the rear and found she sat higher on it than the 1150.

As Bob said the mirrors are really crap, can't understand (or maybe I can) why BMW did this on such an expensive bike.

I then took out a K1200S, loved all the power and with the lastest update the fueling is a lot better than my old K1200R. Alexis was scared on the back of the K1200S and had me stop after only a few hundred yards as she was slipping off the seat with her waterproof trousers on. After the run she loved the power and flick ability of the bike but was still scared of flying off the back when I opened the bike up.

Well as you now know I bought a K1200S from a friend. I have bought a top box with backrest so that Alexis wont fly of the back and it will do really well for our trips. I also bought a triboseat cover and footpeg lowering kit for a pillion, so now she is sorted.

I wanted to like the 1200RT but at the time I did not get on with it. Chris is right regarding the heat, the 1150 RT was hard in Spain in 30 degrees.

I also had a loan of BlackAl's 1200 Adventurer, I got used to the riding position after a few rides, but found it hard going at speed and was really buffeted at anything over 80 mph. Alexis found the bike very roomey.

Just my opinions on 2 up bike riding, the 1200S so far.
