Well the GS has gone in for the cure to the oil leak from the gearbox and the clutch slave cylinder.

Bad news they gave me a 1200RT as a loaner

And I love it and blow mw down so does Judy, bike is very comfortable and dead easy to flick around comparativley, the cruise control is a hoot, the ESA is bloody marvellous and the electric screen is brilliant you can dial out any buffeting at any speed not only for the rider but the pillion as well.

Judy has always suffered from wind blast

but tripping along a private section of motorway at over 100mph I said to Judy how are you finding the ride, she said just great you could go a bit faster if you like

As I have recently hit the ripe old age of fifty I guess that I am now old enough to have one.

Could be a few nice GS goodies up for grabs

Nice one Bob - I've always been a big fan of the RT, be it in 1100, 1150 or 1200 guise. Definitely a 'don't judge a book by its cover' sort of bike.

I'll look forward to seeing yours when you get it.

Well my 1100S was brilliant at all of them but alas technology has out dated it.

The 1200Gs was excelent on our recent trip to Spain and France other than the wind blast that Judy had to suffer at anything over 80mph, and after fitting Avon storms the bike became an absolute joy to chuck around the mountain roads.

Th 1200RT although we have only ridden it two up for about 35 miles seems to tick the boxs, I will have to think long and hard before I make a decision as the GS was on the whole faultless.

If it means travelling a little slower to have a more sport orientated bike then thats maybe what we will do.

Although if Judy really wants to get into some serious touring then I guess it might have to be the RT as we could get a better pace on with it and look at places and venues further a field.

As i've said before,and found out to my cost a few weeks ago,my 1100s even with the 1000's it's had spent on it,couldn't hold a bloody candle to my Tiger when it come to travelling distance,haveing said that,i've had it 7 years and no doubt will have it another 7!!!

Yer wrong mate technology hasn't overtaken the S,what you want from your bike has!,i (we) have suffered to many times in the heat of Spain,France and Italy to ever consider an RT,Pan or any other barn door,might be great on a winters night in January,but when it's 30/40 centigrade not a hope.

As your gonna find out,if you lucky enough to share bikeing with your other half and she has as much input.there ain't may bikes out there that tick all the boxs.

I had a conversation with Sproggy the other day about a K1200s, he was on about the crap gear change,my first priority is what my missus thinks sitting on the back!!!

With a decent seat, larger panniers, and decent wind protection, she'll sit there for hours

Oh and a decent sized tank helps, as every time we stop, she makes an hour of it

After just returning from Garmisch on my 1100S shaken to bits by the vibes, cramped legs and a kidney infection no doubt as a result of the 2000 mile discomfort, I can definately say that the 1100S does not cut it as a tourer. It is a rapid cross country bike on all road surfaces but you need the odd set of traffic lights in order to rest your arse and let the feeling return to your hands.
When we set out on the journey my brother in law came on his R1200C. I thought the lack of weather protection and funny riding position would cause problems. He did the same miles as me at the same speeds (steady 90 on the motorways) and he arrived home fresh as a daisy and went to work the next day.
I am still considering my next bike.

Well ya see it just goes to show!!,my other half has no problem with seat,the screen is absolutely bang on,infact the best part about the bike,and as for panniers,there for people who don't know how to pack!!!,blimey we carry everything in a tankbag and tote bag or topbox for a fortnight and that includes a hairdryer,my two gripes are vibes(at high speed) and lack of HP,thats not to say the bike doesn't have it's place,Le-Mans,Assen,NW200 it's ideal,and while i don't think an S is the ideal tourer,FJR,Pan,RT they ain't either,and thats why you see so many big trailies abroad.

As for decent size tank!! had one for years!!,along with several others on this board.
