Vespa ET4 - Recommend Me a Cheap London Body Repair Shop Ple

Post by julian »

Yesterday evening I accidentally re-modelled the rear of an '01 Vespa ET4 125 with my engine pot on Hyde Park Corner roundabout :D I'd prefer to sort without insurance getting involved, so appreciate if anyone can recommend a place (scoot specialist?) in London to get it fixed reasonably cheaply.

Vespa owner said bike is only worth about £500 so & I offered him £200 cash there and then for his inconvenience but he wants it fixed at a shop.

It needs a couple of trim panels round the numberplate, the big hairdryer bit needs a bit of panel beating round the edges so the other panels fit again, busted exhaust cover + indicator lense.

Good job I wasn't travelling at any speed.

Damage to BMW = broken tangs on oil filler cap. 8)

I might offer to buy him a new scoot for £500 and ebay his for £300.

Cheers Julian

I was going to suggest something similar - give him £500 (rather than buying him another scooter - risky, that), fix the Vespa yourself and then flog it on. There's loads of demand for them.

But I'd check that his opinion of its value is realistic before offering him £500....

Good to hear your S came out of it better 8)

Just remembered there's a little scooter place under the arches at Camden in Water Lane (may not be shown on most maps). They always have a collection of Vespas outside - mostly older but some ET models and they do restorations etc. They might be worth a try. Don't know the name or phone number, though, so it would need a visit.

Just around the corner from there in Hawley Road is an official Vespa dealer but I wouldn't go near that place even if I was desperate - the rudest, least helpful staff in any bike shop I've ever visited. Oh, and people I know who've used them for work have been well and truly ripped off.

There is a scooter emporium in the old whitbread brewery off brick lane.
Unfortunatly not at work at the moment so cannot confirm details.

Oh, the shame of it - having to ask for scooter parts!

"No, honest, I'm a real biker, but...."

Julian,

If that one doesn't work out, there are a couple in Fulham within a short distance of each other. One's on the New King's Road at the junction with Wandsworth Bridge Road, and the other (possibly the best bet) is in Wandsworth Bridge Road itself. It's just on the north side of the bridge near the junction with Hugon Road. Takes me back to my old life in the Smoke - I do miss it sometimes :?

Scooter Emporium in Brick lane have patched up the mechanicals on mine a few times - they are not outrageous for repairs but seem specialise in selling restored oldies at silly money

I have also dealt with Scooterworks in Waterloo - not sure if they are still around - nice people though.

My favourite scooter wheeler dealers are R Agius in the Edgeware Road, family run outfit and much cheaper than franchises like Scooter Den etc.

Speaking of selling them - anyone want to buy mine for £500? Its not getting much use as public transport or car has become Cara's preferred transport.

That'll be Chelsea Scooters. My dad used to own that shop before it became Chelsea Scooters. It used to be called Scooter Service of Fulham....but that's back when scooters were proper ones!

Or try Victory (I think), on Kennington Road, just by the Imperial War Museum...
