Tom Tom

Post by smiliebiker »

Hi 2004 BCR - I have the Tom Tom Rider - can it be fitted to the bike with the kit supplied or do I need to purchase something else to fit it easily to the bike (don't wan't to use the sticky label).

Advice on where to put it (only good one's!) and where to get any extra bits from much appreciated

Thanks

Ken

Ken - first post and you've not introduced yourself???

Tish tish ;)

Welcome to the group anyway...sorry I have absolutely half of F/A knowledge about Tom Toms though. No doubt one of the Boxertrix techno-junkies'll be along in a moment or three (I'm a 20th century luddite...you know; vinyl, valve amps etc etc) ;)

I haven't managed to fit it with the supplied kit. RAM do bits, but be careful, their recommended kit requires a special bolt that Touratech USA sell (in the USA), but neither Touratech UK nor RAM will sell it to me, and Touratech USA wont ship to the UK, because that infringes Touratech UKs rights......

Put the TomTom Rider in the bin and get a Garmin

I like the clutch reservoir mount, others like the mount from the yoke.

There are a few threads on this site about the subject including quite a few pics.

Be aware that the TTR has an inherent fault whereby the spring-loaded pins in the mount - drill holes in the contact faces on the TTR. Also - they can jump out of the mount easily

Have a look at RAM Uk for mounting options also.

Seems like a extreme action - I'll stick with it til the inevitable happens (clumsy ken and all that!)

But thanks for the honesty Al!

If it is what you have, and aren't upgrading - then fine.

The threads I was indicating, were about mounts though - have a trawl through the site for them.

I posted about them and so did "snavetrauts", with plenty of pics

Good luck

Hi there smiliebiker, I have a Tom Tom rider, had it for about 9 months on the S. I had a problem mounting mine initially, I ended up using the vaguely `L` shaped bracket upside down more or less and fixing the ball joint clamp bit to the body of the ignition switch. I used a good strip of rubber around the switch first to take up the slack and give it some free play ....essential for those deep jarring potholes. Also bin those crap screws that round off so easily and get yourself some good ones. I cant see the revcounter but the Tom Tom is very easily viewable, perfect for me.
Hope you enjoy the Tom Tom, best gadget I've ever bought.
