Got around to fitting the mountings and Panniers today. I'm now baffled as to why BMW led us to believe that there would be no luggage at the bikes launch. The rear cowl panels are pre marked for drilling and the alloy subframe has threaded steel inserts already in place for the pannier rails. I think the installation is qute tidy and whilst the panniers are not that large they should be enough for me.

Because they knew in their heart of hearts that they wouldn't get away with sport, sport, sport marketing when people actually started riding the bike

Have you got any pictures, Peter? I am considering getting a set but was wondering what the rails look like when the panniers aren't fitted. Are they quite unobtrusive? How much were they, may I ask?

Paul,
No pictures I'm afraid (there are some over on Pelican) The real thing will be available for viewing next month in Betws!! I think that the rails are unobtrusive although others may think differently. Cost-- too much just depends on how far you can screw your dealer down! I'm told I got mine for less than cost but I very much doubt it.
