Ok chaps, now I have started to modify my bike it starts playing up
I was out today giving it some welly down a long straight road. When I rolled off the throttle there wasn't the usual amount of engine braking and when I pulled up to a stop the engine was still reving and coming down from 5000rpm and settled at about 2000rpm. I didn't want to switch it off in case the bugger wouldn't start again. After about 2 miles all seemed normal again. I haven't experienced this before.
All I have down to the engine is the Cat replacement pipe and a K&N air filter. Recently had the oil etc changed and the carbs sync'd
Any ideas from the collective would be most appreciated. I'd hate to think what the AA or RAC recovery is like here in Cyprus
Del if it's not the throttle cable caught up somewhere then try resetting the the throttle position sensor, it may have been affected by fitting the Y piece. I think it goes something like this: switch on ignition and twist throttle full open 3 times, switch of ignition, switch back on and start...Not sure if that's the correct procedure but I'm sure someone will tell us if it ain't right
Dave
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
I thought about throttle cables being nipped but it only did it once after about twenety minutes of riding and then cleared it self. I will have a look and see what I can see.
Do you only need to do the throttle position sensor after you've disconnected the battery. If I need to do it how quickly do you turn the throttle or is it just a steady open and close?
Fitting the exhaust/y piece would not normally require the tps to be reset. If you have disconnected the battery at any point then you can give the throttle a couple of twists with the ignition on before firing up.However i have never done this and have not noticed any difference to how the bike has ran.Mine has done what you describe a couple of times during my 4 year ownership.Could be a sticky cable, but most likley some little electrical gremlin p[laying silly buggers.I wouldnt worry unless it keeps happening.

ps did you get a chip to go with the setup?
mine has done this before.. It was the cable sticking in the casing, not a cable kink... To do it correctly, remove the cable completely and apply grphite grease to it and reassemble.. However, it seems normally be the top of the cable, by the throttle running under the tank which suffers, so diconnect the cable at the handlebar side and flood the cable sheath with 3 in 1 oil... Not WD40 as this oil is too light and dries up... After that the bike was sound..
When can the Highway agency lay softer road coverings??
Now rides a mangled wreck... Ho Hum back to the K100
I thought that might be the case. It felt like the electrics hadn't quite caught up with themselves. I have checked for binding and all appears OK. I then checked for kinks in the fuel lines (why? I have no idea but it seemed like a good idea at the time) again all appears OK. Took the spark plugs out (how easy is that ) - nice light grey colour which the NGK site says all is well. So I shall now stop fretting and go out tomorrow with my mobile phone in pocket and see if it does it again. Weird eh!!!
I didn't do the chip only the laser cat eliminator and K&N air filter. I noticed there is a chip for sale on ebay at the moment
Not sure on the part number as I don't fancy stripping the thing apart again. I can tell you it's a 2002 model Boxercup replica and one of the last single spark engines if that helps.
What are you looking for the chip and as a matter of interest why haven't you whacked it your bike. I have not heard much about the Vanderline chip! not gonna make my pistons melt is it
I feel better now that I've been for a 2 hour ride up the mountain twisties and no repeat of the problem. I hope it was just the motronic thingy having a funny 5 minutes.
However the credit card has just taken another bashing
I have also just won a laser power chip on ebay from a guy in the US. Are there any specifics I need to know or should do prior to fitting this chip. Is it a good one to fit (bit late now ) I have read lots of good things about it. I will probably wait until the bike goes out of warranty in November before fitting it.
Have had my Laser system and chip on my 2000 S for about 6,000 miles now.
feels much improved but would comment on the charcetristics on the overun IE when you shut the throttle off and the revs drop whe it gets to about 15/1600 rpm it feels a bit like a switch being turned on as the motronic starts to feed fuel bak to the engine, the BMW chip is a bit more subtle and seems to feed the engine a bit more gradually.
Also the engine runs a bit rich at lower RPM but thi si a small thing to contend with.
Will be in sunny Cyprus from Tuesday for two weeks on our Jolly Hollys
give me a call if you fancy a meet for a beer and wnt to talk boxer bollocks.
Yup will have mobile with me, probably wont be switched on untill after 5pm though as I do not want to take it to the beach/pool as work have a bad habit of calling just as I begin to chill.
Think we are staying somewhere in Coral Bay? Judy made the arangements so am not really sure.
Do you want me to bring my TB ballancers, could easily slip them in the suitcase might get withdrawl syptoms if I dont fiddle with a bike for two weeks.
