What a transformtation over stock (on the way out). Difficult to describe the improvment on the bikes handling. Yes the ride is smoother but it turns into corners faster and everything feels so much more planted and well... just correct. I am going to ride it for a couple of days before i make any adjustments.
As to fitting, it was well worth going to see Tim, His garage at home had everything needed to cope. We did encounter one major problem. All of the bolts that connect the header pipes to the piping that leads to the exhaust, hadn't been touched for three years and sheared off as they were lovely BMW cheap steel. A very patient Tim armed with oil, mole grips and oxyacetylene worked his way through them one by one. It added more than a couple of hours to remove the bolts! All caused because my Remus 2 into 2 system blocked the removal of the lower rear shock bolt!
Once this was sorted it took longer to remove/replace the tupperware than fit the shocks.
A lot of chatting means I finally think I understand how a shock really works along with quite a few other gems for smooth precise running.
I can't recommend Tim and the shocks too highly, the shock was so well set up on the rig at the factory that they even got the sag setting spot on!

.....coz they don't have to, most folks sell their bikes more often than they take major components aparttripe wrote:I shall post some pics later in the week.
I agree with the mid pipe position and why don't manufacturers with a reputation for a "quality" build use decent nuts and bolts?

Hi Tripe..... Slightly different direction with this thread, but, Did Tim use the torch on the studs with the tank in place... I have the same problem but was worried about the petrol being pretty near.tripe wrote:A very patient Tim armed with oil, mole grips and oxyacetylene worked his way through them one by one. He would know what he was doing...?
Look forward to hearing from you

Stuart,
The studs came off with the back half of the exhaust so were done separately from the bike anyway. I am pretty sure we did take the tank off though.
This all happened though because my Remus system pipes prevented the removal of the lower mounting bolt from the shock. If you have a standard exhaust then this would not have been a problem. I don't know if a Y piece will cause the same problem as my 2-2.

You just need to remove the bolts from y piece to the headers to give enough wiggle room for the bolt removal. I did this last week as it happens.tripe wrote:Stuart,

Sorry chaps, my confusion I think.
My problem is the studs in the head for the exhaust header pipes.... One has sheared off inside the captive nut. Will have to drill and use an extractor to remove the stud.... It will only work with added heat from a torch.
Otherwise I may take others advise on this topic and srip top end and have it drilled.
Regards
Stuart
