Pilot roads

Post by Boxered »

Just an update, I've now covered a tad under 5K on my pilot roads (the old ones, not the new 2ct) and can report that the rear has squared off quite suddenly, but is still legal, maybe 500 miles left in it, but the front looks like new? allround grip has been great wet or dry.

Well i'm no rossi, but those miles were about 1400 motorway on my french trip last year, but the rest of 'em twisty's ( wales, yorks and peaks mostly) but not edge to edge, I have about 1/2" chicken strip either side. there is plenty of depth left at the sides, but centre tread is down to just over 2mm

Well nearly half of the tyres life was spent on the motorway...that's why it sqaured off; more twisties required young man.

And Bob.....you don't have to be a hero on an S; the best chassis ever IMHO. You have to be very unfortuante to get into a mess on an S.

The strange thing is the majority of motorway miles were covered when they were new, yet it squared off in the last 1000m. I'm happy with 5k from a rear, it's just a shame that centre tread is so low, as there is plenty of tread left on the sides. but hey, we can't have everything.
I'll prolly fit another one and see how long the front lasts.

They square off because the tread goes across the centre of the tyre many times. It's one of the reasons they are so good in the wet. Unlike the Z6 tread pattern which is solid in the middle, probably to increase mileage and resist squaring off. For wet riding I prefer the Pilot Roads.

Just today, did approx 200 miles maybe and my tourances suddenly seem to have squared-off. Hardly any motorway riding and normally quite brisk on a and b roads. Strabge

FWIW

7k in quick time on Roads and they have squared off big time. Still fine, but require a level of comittment when making turn ;-)

Will change rear shortly so that I can have a fresh Pilot Power (or something stickier perhaps) for planned FLASH trip :D

john

ps I only have very small Partridge strips...it's amazing what you can do in a Tesco car park.
