Thnx
Earlier Brembo badged calipers can be fitted but you will need to also find old style fork lowers due to different mounting points and smaller (305mm) discs from the same era of bike.
You could go whole hog and fit AP calipers and discs like wot we got

Lloyd,
Different forks and disk??! Phfft!, screw that for a game of soldados. I couldn't match a pair of socks, let alone that mate. So thnx for the save.

APs - arent they VERY expensive? And arent they meant for track use, so need a bit of looking after for a road-mucker?

Anyone know of threads in here about unlinking brakes?

Yes and yes and I find I like to look after my brakes coz I find them quite useful

When you ask about unlinking brakes do you mean running two lines off the master cylinder - one straight to each caliper and gettin rid of all of the ironmongeryover the forks ?

Yeah, thats the one.....so obviously it has been effectively unlinked before? Are there pros and cons to doing this? Does someone supply ready made hoses to do this?

Mine is a 41K 2003 R1100s.

Yeah Lloyd, I remember a similar issue with Honda Blackbirds and the naked version of it. Is it just as easy to unlink the brakes of the R1100s? Does anyone have a readymade kit for the job? Has anyone done this on this forum? Are there references to read up on?

I have done a search on keywords - UNLINK, UNLINKED and UNLINKING. There were few or no results. Pity that we can't search just the titles, eh mod? eh? eh? :P

There's nothing much on here about linked brakes/unlinking brakes because the S doesn't have linked brakes. Front and back on seperate circuits unless you have ABS in which case it all comes together in some form under the fuel tank.
What they were on about in the thread above was getting rid of all the junctions and pipes on the front run and running a pipe straight to each caliper off a longer master cylinder banjo.

Oh right. I remember doing something similar on a ZXR750R to help bleeding.

Is that the same reason to do it on the R1100S front? Mine is thankfully NOT ABS, I made that a priority in my search.

Non-ABS, as in no ABS on my bike.

I thought the no ABS bike had linked brakes anyway, hence all the questions.

Right now that we have confirmation - non ABS, no linked brakes

binding callipers aye, would this be the "TOKICO" shite that BMW decided to fit instead of real callipers like Brembo's?

Well, with 46k miles on the clock and been having binding brakes for the past 10k with about ten cases of the bike coming to a halt and initially thinking it was pattern part brake pads that were the cause, I stripped my callipers and found this:

Image

The corrosion had got behind all of the dust seals, and behind two of the main seals, pushing the seals hard against the pistons and binding them out.

quality, my arse
