Bellypan respray and protection

Post by Dog Tyred »

The front of my BCR belly pan is looking decidely second hand (why do they use white primer under dark blue paint :? ) after 8000 miles.

Any recommendations for a decent bodyshop or is it something that can be done 'in house' and any recommendations for suitable method of protection once restored??

Cheers

Greg

Same as mine mate (10.5k miles) ... I have taken the belly pan off and stored it in the garage ... not one additional stone chip since then!

…when I had my BCR, I protected the front of the belly pan with black (!) Tesa extra power textile tape…
…maybe unbelievable, but almost invisible (from a little distance), and very easy to use…
…and if you want it in BCR-blue, you can always buy a bit of touch-up paint, and paint the tape blue (BTW ; these people also sell blue textile tape)…

Got myself a sheet of that sticky backed Carbon fibre to match the rest on my 2004 BCR, took a little time to cut it out in sections to fit on the front of the Belly pan (ala blue peter), looks like it was there from manufacture and its protected it a treat, its been on for 5k miles and survived plenty of rain.
Dont know how to upload photo's or I would show you the finished article

It has been on for almost 5k miles and shows no signs of any problems, I just cut out a template in paper first and made sure the surface was clean and dry.

keith :D

Thanks to Ron for offering to upload this photo, but have now got the hang of it.
