End of year rant

Post by eggcup »

Most people will remember Dunblane and although everyone can feel for the parents there was still those who jumped on the bandwagon and thought they knew better than everyone else.
They banned all legitimate gun users and guess what real gun crime is exploding.
But these people have found a new gravy train speed camera partnerships you now the types, 1st the wife of the stockbroker etc bored at home wants to save their communities from nutter bikers
2nd the politicians wife they always know a good earner when they see it
3rd the nosey nieghbour type who complains when nextdoors hedge is too high.
what pisses me off is the total self regenrating scheme this is going to end up just like the gun laws it doesnt have any realworld results.
We have a women involved in Sussex,s Propaganda partneship and at the moment there proposing to put a new camera on the A27 at an accident blackspot, now you might say that they could well make a difference but what this woman fails to inform people in her propaganda is that all the accidents at this spot all involved drink driving (its right out side a pub) even the police have admitted that speed was not a contributing factor.
we have headlines about cars being lethal weapons etc these people are probably unemployable in the real world they take jobs like these and Traveller liason officers/outward reach officers you know the jobs ones that are putting your local council tax up year on year.
where is it all going to end if only these twats would make as much noise about knife and drug crime which affects far more people than the 35 in a 30 limit.

Thats why I left the UK 2 years ago. Went back for a visit Nov/Dec and cannot believe the way it has changed.
Here there are few speed cameras, they are signed and have the speed limit posted before them. We have no neighbors, nor any fences around our land. We can still go out on the bikes or in the car and never see the congestion on the roads. I love it!

Don't believe everything that is written in newspapers! They will only tell you part of the story. You will get your license taken off you for some offenses, like maybe being 50 kmh over the limit or drink driving, but, for other things there is no real difference.
For example, you would be very unlucky to get pulled for having a numberplate the size of a letterbox. You won't get fined for parking just about anywhere. You won't get fined for being a little late with your road tax as there is none here, nor MOTs for bikes.
There are no stealth speed cameras, they are well advertised, and there are very few CCTV cameras positioned to try and catch people out for the slightest misdemeanor.

I was of the opinion that 'speed cameras' had taken the place of traffic police which meant that real dangerous drivers/vehicles were evading the law. However, I now feel that an emphasis on 'real policing' seems to have changed. Perhaps I have just been unfortunate in my recent meetings with the law. I just feel that their agenda has changed and is more about securing a 'conviction' for each 'crime' rather than persuing the 'proper crimes' where 'conviction' is less likley, .. thus,.. the criteria for 'crime' has been reduced in some cases to 'technical offences' where the law is certain that the transgressor is A: Leagl B: Traceable.
My 2007 'Resolution' is to plan my departure from these shores. Firstly by taking off around the world, and secondly by settling in a place where financially and peacfully I can survive.
On Thursday I was in our 'Control Office', .... sitting alongside the 'London Master Atlas' (Couriers Bible) and the English-Portugese dictionary,.. were new files for essential 'Bulgarian' and 'Romanian', .... the writing for my future is on the wall, .. I just didn't know how to translate it.

So, that would be the equivalent of doing 100mph on a motorway here. Who of us doesn't occasionally succumb to that temptation?

I lived in Switzerland for 5 years, and if you are a Swiss resident, the Police will only confiscate your licence (pity help you if you don't have it with you though!) and keys on the spot for serious offences. If you are a non-resident, though, this could happen for even minor offences if you don't have the means to pay the on-the-spot fine. If you have an ATM card, they will normally happily escort you to the nearest ATM machine.

As for the rest of the stuff that we have to deal with, they have it all there too. Speed cameras built in to UNMARKED cars, fixed installations hidden behind signs. Road tax, an annual motorway levy (windscreen sticker), vehicle inspection (varies from canton to canton).
In hiatus from motorcycles.

My brother is a serving police officer and he is sick of the job. He told me that the force is soon going over to performance related pay, which means that if they don't get solid convictions then they don't get paid. So, who do you think they will target - Johnny scrote with 12 asbo's or joe average with a job and mortgage...
..and they wonder why 1 in 10 brits have emigrated.
I'm just surprised the figure is so low.

My wife, Jude, was a copper for a couple of years a while ago, even then they had quotas of self initiated arrests. That is one reason she left.

Sorry; I don't like to rubbish other peoples comments on this forum, but this is patent nonsense.

Police pay is nationally structured and for some years officers at the top of the salary scale for their rank have been able to earn a small bonus if they are performing satisfactorily, the idea is to give the old sweats (like me until recently) an incentive to keep working. What is deemed as satisafactory performance depends on their role and I guess it wouldn't go down too well if a traffic cop just drove around all day and never nicked anybody. I am not aware of any plans to change the way police pay is structured.

The idea that cops will have to depend on securing convictions to get paid is fantasy.
