Fuel Light
At about 110 miles on the trip and the fuel light on my bike is playing silly bugg_rs.
When I start it's on yellow. Then after a mile or two it goes off. If I switch the ignition off, then on I get the same deal. Last tank took me 130-odd miles in town, before I saw the light. Any ideas? Is there a sender I should check?
Finally, can I assume if my bike came with heated grips that the stator is the uprated one? I worry about flattening the battery by using the grips with headlight in low revs stop / start traffic (I can't use an optimate where I park)...

Re: Fuel Light
I reckon the fuel light works on some kind of damping/averaging to stop it flashing on and off which is why it takes a while to go out in this case - might be cos it's left on the sidestand cos the sender is on the right hand (higher) side of the tank. My S does the same, and so does my GS.POB wrote:At about 110 miles on the trip and the fuel light on my bike is playing silly bugg_rs.

As for the grips - you get a bigger alternator and a bigger battery - there's no need to worry about them flattening the battery honest

That's normal and I get the same so no need to worry.POB wrote:When I start it's on yellow. Then after a mile or two it goes off. If I switch the ignition off, then on I get the same deal. Last tank took me 130-odd miles in town, before I saw the light. Any ideas? Is there a sender I should check?

I figure you've got about 15-25 miles from when the fuel light first comes on on the sidestand before the fuel light is constantly on.
I normally get 100 miles for short journey town riding (with filler mod!) but taking it very easy I can get near to 150 before the light comes on for the same journeys.
Mr Sensible.
Excellent. It might be sad, but I often play the old mini-cabber fuel economy game alongside my commentary game and my no-dabs game. I even have a spreadsheet
On my RS I used to get 50mpg+ regularly. Not sure that will be possible on the S. Next stop is fitting my Lazer exhaust system and K&N. Which I'm sure will totally screw the economy. The noise will be worth it though.

Unless the grips have been retro fitted like mineJason M wrote:POB wrote:

I've got a 1100s with an vanderline exhaust, y piece, k&n filter, and bbsomething chip.
i am lucky if i see a 100miles around toon before the green light comes on, 85 miles today. i'm taking this is normal for a bike with the mods i have?
it's new to me so i'm not totally sure what to expect and it is starting to dent the pocket a little bit this week. i'm actually thinking of putting all the standard parts back on to see if it will improve things.
anyone got any ideas?

H-T - I'd say 100 miles or so around town is pretty much par for the course. Highest mileage I've seen to the light (in any conditions) is around 135. Usually get around 120-ish - the BCR's certainly more economical than the 3 previous 11S's I've owned.
Lowest was 79*

I do a 105 mile round trip daily - mainly on motorway. Each way it's just under an hour and as part of the journey is thru the M1 bottleneck south of Luton you can tell a big part of the journey is pretty quick. Generally moving between 90 to 120. (kph m'lud)
It costs around £9.00 a day and my light is on each morning when I go to fill up.
If I'm very keen and the roads are good - the lights on before I pull into my street.

Right.......... I've just got off the phone/bed (delete where applicable) with Carol Vordemann and she says that quoting the trip in £££s means nothing.soggybottoms wrote:I do a 105 mile round trip daily - mainly on motorway. Geez it in Miles/ltr, Km/ltr, Miles/Gallon, Km/Ltr, or Lamposts/ltr so that we can make a proper comparison.
