But I've got the proper r1100s Spark Plug removal tool from Motorworks, butit doesn't fit down the hole in order to get to the plugs.
The tool is the correct size for the replacement plugs I have, but is too wide - do I have to remove the head cover to change the plugs or do I have the wrong tool?

I thought it was just a case of remove plastic cover, remove plug cap, remove plug (with BMW tool) and replace.

Sounds like you have a misplaced spark plug/rocker cover seal; sometimes if they aren't seated properly it makes getting the plug tool hard to get in.
Try shining a tourch down the orifice. If it is this problem , you'll have to remove the rocker cover and prob will need a new seal.

I do not know whether there are two tyes of plug puller..but... on my bike when bought, the puller would not fit into the slots in the tool tray.... so I assume this was a after purchase having lost the original. Have not used it on the bike yet so cannot confirm that it actually fits.

I am sure others on the forum can answer this one for you
